Post *PROPOSED Big MINI Midlands Drive DISCUSSION*

OK folks here is another run for you lovely people to get involved with and hopefully we can make this into a great event. The idea is to have a run for people in the Midlands area so anyone around Nottingham, Birmingham, Leicester, Cotswolds and further afield who want to have a fun drive with hopefully a lot of MINIs then please read on

The Possible Dates: We are thinking Mid May-Early June - Sunday 14th, 21st, 28th of May or 4th/11th of June - That gives us plenty of dates to choose from and we can have a poll on the best date for everyone a bit later on

The Start Point: Donington Park Services M1 - Junction 24A A central location that is easy to get to and also next to the Donington race circuit where there is always likely to be something fun happening on a Sunday morning and also a chance to hopefully see some other interesting cars

The Plan for the day: A nice drive approx 50-75 miles around the area, maybe down towards the Cotswolds, North Wales or Peak District No particular route has been chosen yet and please please put your favourite roads and possible routes on this thread so we get the best ones of all There are some stunning backroads to the east of Donington which most people have probably never heard of so that can be a start point and go on from there. We are aiming for a circular route that ends back at Donington Services just for convenience and hopefully so we can attract more people along!
We can get some lunch in a nice country pub or a chip shop in a village en route depending on what cuisine tickles everyones' palate

So that is the plan then, dreamt up on a lovely Sunday morning run starting at Donington with Olly and Serby yesterday. Hopefully the weather will be warmer and the sun will shine so all you Convertible drivers can get the roof off!

A few questions then to hopefully get this idea set in stone and get the perfect MINI drive organised

What Dates are provisionally best for people??

May 14th
May 21st
May 28th
June 4th
June 11th

They are all Sundays and the following week after the 11th is of course Le Mans so this could be a nice prep run for LM

Where should we drive?

We can do some brilliant local roads around Donington but where shall we aim for after that, the Peaks, Cotswolds and North Wales have all been thrown into the mixer and I am sure everyone has their favourite routes and lesser known roads in these areas so please post up and we can morph the best bits into a top drive

Do people want a meal/lunch on the day?
Most runs have a lunch stop and I think that'll be a good idea but would people prefer fish and chips/the local bakery or a proper sit down meal in a nice country pub?

Please put your name down on the list if you are interested so we can get an idea of numbers
We thought a target of 10-15 cars initially would be a good start then build from there, a lot of MINIs together for a run is always a sight to be seen!

Lets try and discuss this for a while then get a solid plan together, I reckon we could go live in 2 weeks

So that is the plan, please PM or email me if you are interested and please please post your interest on the thread, lets get this MINI adventure started!!

I am leaning towards getting a few names then organising final dates and routes for a run with fewer cars and doing it sooner rather than later mate. May 28th onwards are best for me as I have an exam on the 24th although to be fair it is my only one! All dates except the 14th May are cushty for me. Any ideas on routes folks???

count us in for this one
21st may would seem best
as it doesn't clash with any other runs
on the calender ,,,,would probably get more
turn out that way..........
just a thought........

I'm interested depending on final details such as date etc...

personally a true Midlands run, you know covering areas like Birmingham, Staffs, Notts is going to appeal more to me than Cotswolds, North Wales or Peak District as list in the first post, as there are over runs that cover these areas

Look forward to seeing how this pans out though

The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive?

Yep I quite agree on that Rakey that there are already runs covering the other areas. The reason I suggested those is that I know the roads out that way whereas I am stumped on Staffs and Birmingham roads having never driven there!! Can you suggest any routes down there, we will be doing a recce hopefully within the next 2 weeks...

That is a good point Stu, I tried to suggest several dates so we had more options open but there are of course some clashes with other runs.

Mad Brummie would be a good person to help you find some routes, as I don't live in Birmingham anymore, but there are plenty of great things to try and cover with a run
