Works GP - Track day event - late 2006

To celebrate the launch of the forethcoming lightweight Works GP, I will be organising a special Works GP track day for GP owners in October or November 2006.

All Minis will be welcome, but special effort will be made to make GP owners the centre of attention.

Track is likely to be the beginner freindly Bedford Autodrome, as it is central (ish) in the UK and has easy access. Its not a hard track on cars, and the lightweight GP should perform well around the track.

It will likely be on a weekend, and I would guess cost to be around £150 each car, which is very reasonable.....

As I said, open to all Minis, but with a special slant on the Works GP.

So, all prospective GP owners, if you'd like to be involved, please let me know..... and I will start a roll call.

Any suggestions welcome.

you could still support the event without taking your car on track I suppose...? There would be plenty of scope for passenger rides on other cars, and a social gathering would be good. Seeing a group of GP's together, possibly for the first time, would also be cool... no?

Tony, looks like another wasted GP car. He'll probably be found at home polishing it rather than enjoying it.

Each to their own.

Wasted GP car? Why cause I won't take it on the track?

For a start it isn't a track car. The JCW brakes are good for spirited driving at most. If I wanted a track car I'd have bought something built for it.

I'll be enjoying it thank you very much.

Please lets not debate this on here.

I genuinly want to see 20+ Works GP's on or at a track meeting in the UK. Thats only 5% of the total UK production run and cant be taht hard a target to meet.

The thread is NOT aimed at people who dont want to do any track experience, its aimed at people who DO want to do it.

Tony, I think it is a great idea. I will see if we can't do something like that over here.

I know several people over here who are going to track theirs, not me, but it is because I suck at driving. I would like to see someone who can drive wring one out.

I do agree with Mo though, a well equipped track car will win everytime. At our last local track day there was a Caddy and a pickup truck running. Everyone got to feel good about their driving!

Don't think I up for a track day with the GP just yet.

But any social gathering of GP or indeed any other mini owners sounds good to us.
It would be a good photo opportunity and interesting to see the rest of you guys racing round the track.

Seeing as the track is only about 20 miles down the road from us, why not.
