Guaging Interest - Blackpool Illuminations Convoy

I got to thinking this morning, it's coming up to September and that means Blackpool Illuminations. I used to go every year with my folks and thought it might be a bit of fun as well as nostalgic to have a convoy of mini's go through the illuminations. So the idea is: -

Don't think there will be much of a chance to tear up the streets of Blackpool (especially not with all the speed cameras) so it will be a leisurely drive from Bispham through to Starr Gate end.

Date Friday 8th Sept. Meet up at The Red Lion - 9.30pm for a drink, then propose to drive through the illuminations at 10.30 - 11pm.

I'm interested. My Coopers in Derek Woodman that day for a new clutch so will be in the area. Might be a last minute call though depending on how Woodmans get on.

just be aware how bad the traffic is. we did this a couple of years ago & it was a complete nightmare dodging coaches, horse & carts, drunks. it took nearly 2 hours to get from north to south & we were just happy we'd got through unscathed.

don't get me wrong, its a great idea, just make sure you time it well to avoid the worst traffic

Very interested in this, but would echo Hat's comments... last time I did it (me and a bunch of friends went to Blackpool and decided to drive through the illuminations together - there were only three or four cars I think) it was a bloody nightmare, but we probably timed it completely wrong.

This is only a few miles up the road from me so I might come and say hello. The Red Lion in Bispham is a good place to meet up, has a big car park.

Yes this has been my experience in the past, either early or late drive through should avoid the worst of it. Also most people tend to start at the other end from my suggestion so should help also! Maybe it could be a midnight drive through, not sure what time they turn the things off???

Meet up 7pm ish for Fish & Chips, time for photo opportunities, then convoy through the illuminations.

Please note it get's very busy on a Friday night so it may take an hour or so to get from one end to the other. Proposed date Friday 8th Sept.

best count me in then....was due to be on a night out...but the lure of PW tearing down the road is too much....why dont we do it at 3 in the morning...roads will be clear then...
