Italy So you wanna know about the Italian Job 2007…..

Over the last couple of months several MINI2ers have asked us for details about this years run. So in an effort to tantilise you into doing the job and clear up a few mysteries I’ve decided to set this thread up.

It may seem a bit early to start a planning and discussion thread but after last years job, we feel we could of started our planning a little earlier.

So here’s the known facts for the IJ 2007, which are still subject to change, but we’ll keep this thread updated.

PROJECTED COSTS

ENTRY COST
£500 – Per car.

HOTELS
£500 – 530pp for 8 nights(including two optional nights on the run home, last year 140pp) Nett cost 360 – 390pp.

PETROL
£456 based on 3000 miles at 25mpg (To dispel a myth here we found the petrol in Italy to be no cheaper than the UK, but on the brightside you can get Shell Opitmax 100 octane. )

ROAD TOLLS.
£100 approx dependant on your route there and back.

ROAD TAX –SWITZERLAND
£20 approx (however this route would reduce your road toll cost)

FINAL HOTEL UK (TBC)
£160 per double room (based upon 2006 price at Brighton’s Hotel Metropole)

WHAT’S INCLUDED

Bed, breakfast and evening meals at 4 and 5* hotels.
Lunch on most days.
Wine with evening meal.
Entry to all events.
Return ferry crossing.
Gala dinner on final day.

ITINERY

Navigational Rally
Fri 26 Oct – Sun 28 Oct Quarto d'Altino (near Venice) - Holiday Inn

Mon 29 Oct Gussano (near Monza) - Hotel Habitat

Tues 30 Oct Stressa - Regina Palace

Wed 31 Oct Turin - The Meriden Lingotto (tbc)

Pit stop hotels
Annecy 1 November and Reims 2 November

Heroes return celebration dinner
3 November – Brighton UK

PLANNED VISITS INCLUDE

Cruise on Lake Maggiore.
Lingotto Rooftop Track.
Monza Race Circuit.
Adria Raceway.
Misano Adriatico
Fiorano Ferrari test track

TIMETABLE

Now – Resistration open (£250 deposit required, taken off your car entry fee)
30 June – Balance of entry fee required (£250)
31 August – Payment of hotels due.
16 October – Ferry options open (you can make your own way to the event up to a week before the start)

FUNDRAISING

Target --£1500
The Italian Job provide you with lottery tickets and you can seek sponsorship through family and friends or companies and organisations. However, as long as you try your best, the figure of £1500 is only a target.

SO WHATS IT LIKE TO DO THE JOB?

This is very difficult to sum up in a few words. It's a fantastic run, visiting some very special places, uniting the classic and new MINI..

I hope the following videos act as a taster and 118’s blog serve as a personal insight to the IJ.

Feel free to use this thread for any enquires as there’s already a few of us on here ready to do it again, who. I’m sure will make themselves known and be equally happy to provide additional info.

As one of the guys that asked you for all this info, thank you. Will really help with the plans for this year. Really looking forward to it.

I'm sure this thread will be helpful to a lot of people as the italian job website is very vague about the actual cost of this run.

Cheers Guys

Glad to be of help.

We also found the IJ site very vague when we looked into doing it last year. This was part of our reasoning for setting up this thread.

Any further information we get we'll add to the first posting, but you'll also recieve regular news letters from the IJ once you sign up.

Just thought I would say what a great event the Italian Job is. We did the Job and made some great friends (you know who you are). We are hoping to do the Job again in 2007, just need to work out some details.

If you are after the utimate European Adventure then this is the mini run for you and you raise money for charity whilst having an amazing time.

Thanks chris and jax's for putting this up, I was thinking of doing the same (you just beat me too it).

Also it would be great to travel down with some Mini2er's and have some fun on the roads on the way down.

We will post as soon as we have confirmed that we can do it

Andy and Heather

Also there is a good write up in Mini World and Mini Mag this month

Excellent idea guys
Anyone who's thinking of doing it, stop for a moment...

... JUST DO IT! like Andy says, you won't regret it (I can promise you that!), and it's great fun and also a great opportunity to make so many new friends

Hi Andy,
I'm absolutely relying on you to help keep this thread updated with rumours and getting insider information from certain individuals about this years event.

I know its still early but i feel once again the official site is very confussing and vague for first time runners, as we found last year.

Its also looking like planning is going to be even more important this year to get everyone down to Stressa for the start of the event this year for various reasons.

Let us know ASAP once you can confirm yours and Heathers attendance, I really hope you can make it.

As for the magazine articles thanks for the nod, but I've been struggling to get to the shops over the last couple of days. I've been really busy at work organising my teams in clearing up all the fallen wind blown trees round here.

Speak soon
Chris

Hi guys,
Obviously the entry fee can be covered by corporate sponsorship but is it within the rules to get other costs, such as fuel sponsored?

The road book is very easy to use and you use this for all your driving once the rally starts, when we left Turin last year to come home we felt lost without it .
