Surrey Jungle Run - Sunday August 12th 2007 **Pace Notes Added**

Come along for a drive through some of the finest scenery the North Surrey Downs has to offer. A sizeable mix of roads from single track twists through the wooded jungle through to long flowing single and dual carriageways.

Meeting at Great Bookham, in the Grove Corner Car Park (postcode KT23 4LP) the ride will take us up into the hills of Ranmore Common, down the now famous (at least to the Wey Valley Mini set) trough road towards Abinger Hammer (to be known as Jungle Valley after the run - you'll see why), out into the enchanted forests around Leith Hill, north towards Dorking before hanging right into long flowing country roads through South Holmwood towards Betchworth. A long steep climb up Pebble Hill to the top of Box Hill finishing by traversing the Zig Zag road to the base of Box Hill and lunch at the Stepping Stones pub. The pub is just across the dual carriageway from the exit from Box Hill and has a good Sunday Lunch menu, ample eating space and the all important parking. I spoke with the proprietors today (27th May) and although they don't take bookings on Sundays they were confident of fitting us all in. I suggested there could be up to 30 of us - so anyone wanting to add their name to the list is welcome.

Plenty of good scenery and regroup/photo points along the way. The run I’ve mapped out is 30 miles and should take us about 2 hours so a 10am drive off will be necessary.

A map and directions of the route will be provided and as the nature of some of the roads on this run mean it is impossible to go fast, this is good for all levels of Mini driver. So nothing to be scared of! As it's a Sunday morning we will encounter all manner of fellow road users: horseriders, cyclists etc - please be prepared to be patient at times. However the routes this run will take you on are what your Mini was built for! I've driven it 4 times now and still find it entertaining - rain or shine.

Let me know if you want to come and if you will be staying to eat Sunday Lunch at the end - so I can let the pub know what to expect.

Tim

Baskers and I did the pace notes last night (14th June) and I took along my video camera....... here's a taste of what's to come....

Pace notes now added but I will bring laminated copies and a map for each car. The Grove Corner Car Park (where we are starting from) is signposted off the main road with a P for Shoppers. You take the turn off the A246 for Polesden Lacey to get to the car park. Any probs, call me, I'll pm everyone my mobile number. Please aim to be there for a 10am start. See you Sunday!!

Did a recce of this run with Tim last night - absolutely superb!

The views, scenery and the roads are something else. I though I knew Surrey roads well, but this is excellent!!

Hey chaps!

Black Pearl and I are up for doing this run - suspect this time we will be in my car, Dangermouse.

My boyfriend is feeling very left out since I've started planning on going on MINI runs and wants to know if he's allowed to follow us in his kit car... He'll deal with his own breakdowns

If so, that'll be three of us in the Dangermouse group for lunch

I don't see why we shouldn't have some foreign company - would that be a mechanical or nervous breakdown he plans on having?!!

Good to have the 3 of you on board.
