Thanks! We had planned on driving to Alaska in summer of 2008, but I think that will be delayed until 2009 now.

Well, if I'm inviting Fuzzy and me along on Carl's vacation, you'll have to invite yourself too. Trip across the Outback in 2009?

Now, Yellowstone National Park might be worth a visit. Anyone fancy it?

Depending on route, this might be interesting:

We stopped here one time, it's worth a few hours:

Or, if you decide on a southerly route:

We hung around the base of this fella for a few days with no ill effects

Popacatapetl "The Lord that Smokes" gently erupts in the dawn light. possibly the most dangerous volcano in the world it overlooks the world's largest city (Mexico City)

later we went to drive around the San Andreas fault for a couple of weeks, again no problems. So in my view if your numbers up it don't matter where you are or are not. We are not intending to vist Iraq just yet though, I'd call it a trip of calculated risks.
