Just got back 10 mins ago - peeled off from the tour near the end, for the 3.5 hour drive back to Loughborough (near Nottingham) - now completely shattered!
Had a fantastic weekend! Arrived on Friday evening at about 11pm, and had to pitch the tent by headlights! The treasure hunt on Saturday was great - hopefully Mikey and the judges appreciated our collected items (Japanese rice crackers, trolley token etc) Unfortunately didn't make the disco, as we put our heads down for a kip at 8pm, and didn't wake up again until 1am, only to fall back to sleep again - oops! How was it?
The drive today was fantastic, and can't wait to see the pics! Loved the climb up the steep hill (forgot the name), and the twisty up and down roads just before stopping off at the pub - hello to the Northern Minis we joined on the roads, and stopped off with for dinner! We don't think Monty (our classic Mini), would have made it to the top of the hills, but planning to get him in tip top shape for next year anyway!
It was great meeting people, and hopefully we'll know what to expect next year and will be more prepared to mingle with the crowds.
Thanks again to Mikey and the other organisers! Will definitely be coming again next year! And hello to all those we spoke to and followed on the tour!
PS - When were the results of the quiz etc announced? We've both got an early start for work tomorrow, hence having to leave the end of the tour to go home, rather than joining everyone back at the camp.
PPS - Next year, I'll have to get my car modded to stand out from the crowd - felt a bit left out being plain and simple (except for the MINI sun blinds...woop!).
This was my very first Mini meet up/run and it was simply superb! Drove up on the Saturday afternoon as we weren't camping - got talking to people straight away - what a friendly bunch! Just walking round the campsite admiring the minis was a pleasure in itself..
Didn't make the disco on the Saturday night unfortunately so we were all ready for the drive on Sunday. Must admit was kinda nervous about not being able to keep up with the other minis and yes we got lost a few times - but soon caught up with others!! An excellent drive, really impressed with the splashes although the woman feeding the ducks was a massive distraction
By the time we had food my other half (an avid Focus driver) was dying to get behind the wheel! The hills we went up and down were brilliant. It really didn't feel like we'd been driving so long when we got back to the campsite at 4pm.
Thanks to the organisers of it all - maybe next year i will brave the camping and be there for the whole weekend plus my JCW aero kit will be on
Also big hello to the LMR faithful and others we met...
It was brilliant mate (will PM/email you the feedback form). Specially liked being there for the Friday rather than just getting there Saturday afternoon (like we did the last 2 times) and missing the Ferry raid and Trasure hunt).
Loved the Saturday mainly because I got to drive my car a bit scary as its sounds at mo.
Sunday was good (I don't know how the hell you find those roads ), but its not the same as a passenger (I only made one mistake and only unvolved reversing 5 feet ).
Hopefully next year my car will be up for the runs (going to Lohen next Saturday) and if I've saved the cash up coilovers will mean I can avoid the scraping by raising the ride height
Nothing is like the Lakes, looking forward to Lakeland Tour 2009
LMR Guys...
Had intended to come and talk to a few of the LMR lot but got a bit caught up I'm sorry. R99 you were behind me and Graham for a while had intended to say Hi and comment as those stickers looked mint! Then he got very annoyed at that Audi driver
JWT - saw you on the motorway and gave you a wave, liking the side stripes, every MINI should have em
Got home about 8ish after completing the whole run, getting back to the campsite, took tent down and then packed car, talked to mikey a out his sound system then an hours and a half drive home
Will post pictures tomorrow as faking asleep and typing on iphone.
Oh and enjoyed the disco aswell
Spotted you in a lay-by parked up on the way back! @ muppets in Micras
Fantastic run as ever Mikey! Brilliantly organised and such great roads and people It always seems slightly surreal being back at home and not spending days in a field with mucho BBQ food!
I've got a few piccies, but eyes are too tired to make out if they're in focus or not They should be up tomorrow
Thanks again to all involved and I hope you're having a well earned pint as we speak
Big thanks to Mikey and the gang for a fantastic weekend - made the 21 on the ferry and had a great run run back from Keswick in the afternoon (the wife took one look at the shops in Keswick and that was the end of the Treasure Hunt for us, sorry!). But the tour today was fantastic - how on earth did you manage to find those roads? Absolutely breathtaking scenery.
Hi to all those that we got talking to over the two days - great bunch of people. Just sorry we had to leave before the prizes, etc - it was long drive back to Nottingham after all that went before.
Ok my pictures are nearly ready to post, but does anyone know which site most of the classics use? I've got some really nice ones, and it seems a shame if they dont get the chance to see them.
