KAES Cinque Ports Run 2/11/08

Sunday 2nd of November 2008!

The Cinque Ports Run was first run in November of 2006. It proved hugely succesful with a record turnout of MINIs. 2008 promises to be just as good if not better!

The Cinque Ports are a historic series of coastal towns in Kent and Sussex, at the eastern end of the English Channel where the crossing to the continent is narrowest. It was originally formed for military and trade purposes, but is now entirely ceremonial.

The name is Norman French for "five ports" – the five being Hastings, New Romney, Hythe, Dover, and Sandwich. They are supported by the two ancient towns of Rye and Winchelsea, whose councils traditionally maintained defence contingents for the realm of England.

Apart from the five ports and the two ancient towns, there are seven other members of the Confederation, which are considered to be Limbs of the other towns. These are Lydd (Limb of New Romney), Folkestone, Faversham and Margate (Limbs of Dover), Deal and Ramsgate (Limbs of Sandwich) and Tenterden (Limb of Rye).

There are in addition some 23 towns, villages and offices which have varying degrees of connection to the ancient Liberties of the Cinque Ports. Pevensey was once a Limb of Hastings, and the coastal confederation and during its mediæval period consisted of a confederation of 42 towns in all.

The main starting point for the Run will be Sainsburys, Aylesford, Maidstone (Opposite Cooper MINI Maidstone) at 10:30am sharp to leave by 11am at the latest

The run lasts all day long, so do bring a Picnic lunch, and money for Fish and Chip dinner!!!

Hopefully this years run will be puncture free and packed full of MINIs!!

We have 15 confirmed MINIs so far, but want more MINIs to come along!!

Either PM me, or hop onto the thread at Kent and East Sussex MINI Club Thread

Dummy run is all completed now, there are some amazing sites and some cracking roads to drive, especially in the North Kent part of the run!
