Offline | Lake District After spending a few days travelling around the lake district including Hardknott pass, Wrynose pass, Kirkstone pass, Honister pass, Derwent fells these roads are most definately built by the Romans with the MINI in mind. So, who is going to organise a MINI run in the Lake District for next year sometime? How many of you can say they have been up a 30% hill? It is well worth doing and we will be first on the list. ![]() Was a 1, now 1 of 150 in a 40 |

Offline | Re: Lake District I agree, the Lake District was meant for the MINI. My wife and I, returned yesterday from a 5 day visit to the Lakes, in Primrose, my 7 week old 'S'. We also traversed the well known passes, plus an interesting road which runs from Buttermere to Keswick. How come we didn't meet?. When climbing Wrynose from Ambleside, I was forced to stop on a steep uphill tight left-hand bend due to amount of traffic in both directions, and had great trouble getting going again. The road was wet and with much scabbling of tyres and the smell of burning rubber and the traction control light flashing furiously, we got going again!! ( Couldn't go backwards due to a Discovery up my tail ) Much has been said in this forum about the 'S' first gear being to high. In these crcumstances, it certainly is. Running in!!! nearly completed, loking forward to using engine to the max. Geoff Poad Last edited by R50 : Nov 2nd, 2002 at 05:34 PM. |

Offline | I'd love to join you guys. I spent a little time in Keswick in 1994 and fell in the love with the whole area. You lucky things. Beautiful area, lovely people, excellent MINI roads. Regards, ElTel |

Offline | Sounds great. I've done exactly the same sort of thing with another car club (pumapeople) - the Lakes is a great place for driving any kind of motor. Just make sure you go slowly enough to take in some of the incredible scenery. Buttermere to Keswick in particular (via Honister pass) is very special indeed. Last did it in near-horizontal torrential rain and even with the much-reduced visibility, it was a sight to behold. Waterfalls cascaded off the mountainside and straight across the roads near the top of the pass. Awesome. Mal. Last edited by malross : Nov 5th, 2002 at 07:35 AM. |

Offline | I could be in for that too. The Lakes are only about 30 minutes from my house. AidenL, will you be coming on the ferry to Heysham? We can have a mini MINI convoy on the way! I live about 5 miles from Heysham, and it's where I learnt to drive! |
