Offline | Paul Wheadon's idea I know I`m a bit late, but a big thanks from the lonely Silver/Black Cooper in Carlisle for the fantastic day out on Sunday. To Taz, a big thanks for organising the day, superb stuff ,especially the route planner and name badges(cherished momentos!) To Malross, thanks for the guidance out of Newcastle, nearly got confused at the Fenham roudabout...then i realised where i was! To everyone else, another big thanks for making us welcome on our first run. We didnt know what to expect, I told Judith (my other half)I wouldnt be thrashing the car but at times I couldnt help myself. That blast where half a dozen of us missed the turn off to Blythe was great fun, not as brave as Martin yet though on the roundabouts!!! Didnt see the camera though, will just have to wait and see if something drops through the letterbox.... I was still in GNR mode all the way back to Carlisle, it was the quickest return fron Newcastle I`ve ever done!! Martin...How much is the room at the Hotel at Thirsk for the C to C in Sept, and do you have a phone no for it. If anyone fancies a run out up here I dont mind organising something...something along the lines of Start in Carlisle, to Alston(A69,A689), to Penrith(down the fantastic Hartside route A686),to Keswick(A66), to Cockermouth(via Newlands Valley, Buttermere,Lorton) and back to Carlisle(A595). I know everones pushed for time in the next couple of months, but its a thought for the future. Once again, everyone thanks again for Sundays experience. Paul/Judith/Matthew |

Offline | Kidcharlemagne59's idea Daz - I'm planning on taking my 12 year old (Tom) camping sometime this summer for a couple of nights in the Lakes - it's a yearly commitment. Admittedly we're out to climb a hill or two (I'd thought of camping by Ullswater so that we could walk up Hellvelyn one day, do Striding Edge. Personally I've tried to suggest B & B, but Tom, being a scout insists we rough it. Can't wait to be eaten alive once more by the midges, poking my head out of the little tent at 6am to see nothing but low cloud, having sleepless nights cos other folk talk till 4am...ah the joys of the outdoor life! Anyway, if anyone is up it, taking the Mini and combining the camping with some pleasure, I might be on for it. STEVE |

(A66 back to A1 Scotch corner) All excellent roads, with the KLF seal of approval Just a thought tell me what you think, might have to do a recce on the last part Chris |

Offline | smspjs's ideas I'm up for it! (Post #346) I know I'm being cheeky cos we're just 'hangers on' until 1st Sept, and if you can get the Newcastle lads that far south then York's OK with us, but it would be good to get most folk there wherever it is. I used to be president of Hartlepool Motor Club ( Mainly 12-car's, Autotests, Navigational events and Treasure hunts )and finding a location was(is) our biggest problem. What about somewhere in Northallerton/Thirsk Area as a happy medium? Or do alternate months in the North area and South of the Area - this is what the Trackrod Motor Club do to cover their patch - it's a floating club with club members taking turns to 'host' a meet in their facourite local - it sounds like a great idea to me. Daz and I can offer a very nice Rugby Club available to all (about 1/2 a mile away from where you all started on Sunday) I think the idea of a kick off meet to discuss plans sounds good - if you fancy it in the middle somewhere I can find a location for starters. ( The Fleece? ). And if you want some 'organising' help - I'll join in. All just idea's to kick around. Stewart. |

Offline | A few people have suggested camping. And Martin and a few others suggested going to see the Italian Job 2. Another run idea I have been thinking about for a while. Start somewhere near the cleveland hills, a place that is hopefully easy for evryone to get to. Then drive down through stokesley and get to Osmotherley (really nice reservior here). Then back through Carlton in cleveland and up Carlton bank to the viewing point car park. On to Chop Gate and another stop. Then down Helmsley for a nice drink. From here is anyones guess It depends how far you want to travel. The options are over to the coast, possibly Whitby and Staithes. Then back across the moors to the roads home. I keep thinking we have to start and finish in the same place, but that doesn't matter really as long as evryone knows how to get home What do you think? ![]() |

Offline | Great. Now we're mega-upset cos we haven't got a MINI. Feel a major depression and associated Guinness over-consumption coming on between now and Sept 1st. Only 88 days, 10 hrs and 50 mins remaining. Still - it all sounds promising. (Like the name too) ;-) |

Offline | smspjs- If you wanted to do a run in the lakes, why dont you try phoning my dealer, Lloyds of Carlisle. When we were interested in buying the Min we booked a demonstrator about half a dozen times, sometimes having it all day. I know your buying somewhere else, but its worth a try, they even have a branch in Cockermouth right on the doorstep to the lakes. Hey, they can only say No! Offline | OK - We'll leave the terriorists behind and try and cadge a lift on the MINI2NORTH runs ! June's already on us, but how about starting with :- July/Aug - KLF's durham run in July/Aug sometime as the MINI2NORTH kick-off event? with an ideas session at the finish? ( Form a diary committee? Ask the resident web-wise whizz-kid - he who can be in two places at once - about the possibilities of a diary website, as the forums get too cluttered ? ) Sept - 12th - Italian Job Opens in UK Sept - 27/28th - Mart's Coast-Coast. Oct - Paul's Carlisle Run in Oct? Or am I letting my imagination run away again? Last edited by Nameless : Jun 5th, 2003 at 04:49 AM. |

Offline | Hartside pass, anyone? Just one quickie. If we can base a run around the A686 from Haydon Bridge to Alston and on to Penrith via Hartside Pass, that would be a killer day. I believe the road was even featured in the AA's Top 10 Roads in Europe not so long back. Just cross your fingers for a nice clear day to get the best views of the Lake District from the Hartside top cafe. In fact, coming from Newcastle, I'd be happy to do that and then straight back again on the same route, but I'm guessing others would be looking for a little more variety. ![]() Mal. ![]() |
