Tunes

Anyone coming is hereby invited to let me know what sound system they have in their MINI (or Mini, or pseudo-MINI, or virtual-MINI). I'll burn some suitable/bloody awful[*] tunes to provide an appropriate soundtrack for the treasure hunt.

CDs and tapes fine; anyone with a MiniDisc player will be docked points for being insufferably smug (which is to say - sorry, I can't do MD).

Drop me a line to jonathan 'at' quernstone.com to let me know what media you'd prefer. Track requests (especially those backed by an mp3) welcome, to the same address.

Thanks for the offer Jonathon

I've already lost points before I start then..

If anyone out there needs a MiniDisc making up I have a spare one kicking about that I can gladly tape some pertinent tunes onto.

Be warned though that my record collection is primarily made up of 'pop' with a bit of 'pap' thrown in for good measure.. So if you're looking to be serenaded by Kylie as you get lost on the misty moors then I'm your man..

Hmm... that does sound better than what I had in mind...

No! No! I will stick with the plan! It's funny! You may not like the music, nor even agree, but it's funny!

OK, so - one MiniDisc (which I can't do). Any more for any more?

Chris,

I'm not trying to play Devil's advocate here, but have you heard anything about the state of the roads along the route we'll be taking? I've heard of several flood warnings over the last few days in relation to the Dales, but as I don't know the area very well I'm not sure if the floods will impact us in any way?..

Dales roads

I drove up over the A65 to Skipton (and beyond! gasp!) on Sunday, and there was a substantial amount of standing water in the fields - as bad as I've seen it. The road had standing water in places, too. I was very glad the MINI doesn't much blink when you step a tyre into a large puddle.

I'll be coming back that way on Friday afternoon - will report in. It's not quite the same area, however.

Weather report

It's quite hilly so any water should have drained away - I have to give the restraunt a ring on Saturday to confirm numbers so I'll ask then. I 'do' this run regularly and have never had problems with water - Snow - yes

Last call for treasure hunters! The weather's been nice and sunny for the last few days so it should make for some excellent photo opportunities in the Dales!

Please e-mail me if anyone wants to swap mobile numbers just in case we get lost (or want to cheat?..)

Its just my luck!
I've been hoping to get out and meet some like minded MINI owners and have a bit of fun (in convoy) for ages.
This Treasure Hunt in the Dales would've been perfect, but I have family coming up this Sunday (haven't seen them for a year) and so I can't attend. Bugger.
Anyway, count me in for future events, and I hope you all have a good day.

Psycho Sheep in 'No Chips' shocker...

Thanks to Chris for arranging the treasure hunt!

It was great to put a few more faces to names and to finally get my MINI onto the roads it was born to grip!

Thanks also to Jonathan for the CD - I'm only sorry it wouldn't fit in my MiniDisc, but I've just had a listen to it tonight and it's very aptly named! (but far less cheesy than my MD collection!)

If the link below works, there are a few pics of today's festivities - if not, let me know and I'll stick 'em in my gallery

Thanks again Chris!

Big up to the Chris massive

Big thanks to Chris for taking so much trouble over the treasure hunt. Next time I'll bring another pair of eyes to spot those signs.

Incidentally, you did all notice that the house with the dolphin pond [1] had a MINI parked outside, didn't you? Yellow.

Nice to meet you all - I'll circulate a track list for the Cheese disc just as soon as I work out where I've put it.

Jonathan [2]

[1] Deliberately ambiguous phrasing to befuddle the dirty stop-at-homes.
[2] What is it with the stupid nicknames? For heaven's sake, people!

The other MINI completely passed me by Jonathan, but I'm glad to see the owner has such taste in the choice of colour..

As for the nicknames, I agree it does make things a tad confusing at these meets but for future reference people are quite welcome to call me 'Dogger' in the flesh - I've been answering to it since I was about 8 so I'm not going to start being offended now!..

Off to listen to that CD again now - as Graham Norton would say, "it's all just SO cheesy"!

Cheesy details

That track list in full follows. Any deviation from the published list is a screw-up of almighty proportions, and frankly I think we'd all be better off not knowing about it.

1. It's Caper Time (Italian Job theme - no vocals)
2. Mini - Corduroy
3. Ilkley Moor Bah't 'At - Black Dyke Mills Band
4. 'Does he really need all this equipment?'
5. Starsky & Hutch theme (James Taylor Quartet)
6. Green Onions (Get Shorty theme)
7. Always Something There to Remind Me - Sandie Shaw
8. '...and already I'm in a hot car!'
9. Bullitt theme (to remind us why we're not driving Pumas)
10. The Avengers
11. Getta Bloomin' Move On! (Italian Job theme - with vocals)
12. Man in a Suitcase (ah! bet you thought it was TFI Friday, eh?)
13. The Professionals
14. On Days Like These - Matt Monroe (Italian Job opening theme)
15. 'You're only supposed to blow the bloomin' doors off!'
16. Austin's Theme (James Taylor Quartet - Austin Powers)
17. Perfect Day (BBC version)
18. '...everything.'
19. Shaft
20. Dam Busters
21. 'Your car?... pretty car'
22. The Sweeney
23. 'Hang on a minute lads, I've got a great idea...'

I had this whole 60s/90s thing going on, trying to find 60s classics that were updated/covered/nicked from. Except that doesn't explain Sandie Shaw. Heigh-ho, never mind.

Hope you enjoy the cheese, anyway.

is that Jeremy Clarkson looking at my car?

All,

A big thanks to everyone, we had a really enjoyable day.

Special thanks to Cooperman, aka Chris & Fiona for the great organisation, and to Jonathan for the Cheesy CD, great fun, and now holding a worthy place in the collection.

We'd like to return the hospitality by inviting you all to the coming North West treasure hunt. The more the merrier and the NW meets have been well attended so far.

So we hope you consider it worthy of the trip... After all longer in the Car and that's what it's all about.

For those who attended, I'll provide the peeler, anyone good with the chip pan... Sorry got to go is that Jeremy Clarkson looking at my car?

Graham, Karen & Jack
