| I'm a world record holder | Big Mini event in Oldham 9th of August - Why dont we know about this! Arg! Just heard on the 96.2 the revolution (Local radio station in Rochdale and Oldham) that there is a big mini event on on Saturday at Tommyfield market. The advert said that there were going to be over 80 minis there are a masive scalextrix track, wioht competitions for the best mini! They said something about the Italian job crew would be there, dont know what that means though! Maybe Russ Swift again! I have seen oldham mini club before and they are mainly classic minis but there are more and more BMW minis there. The web site for oldham mini club is http://www.oldhamminiclub.freeserve.co.uk/ but there isnt really any more info. Will try and find out more info asap. Offline | This is what I found on Oldham Councils website I only heard of this today allthough cant say will make big effort to go. Oldham going Mini mad for first ever local rally Date: 30 July 2003 - Reference: AI/PR/TCP/7/03 Oldham's town centre will go Mini mad when the first ever local Mighty Mini Car Rally takes place next week. Enthusiasts from across the North West will bring their favourite cars to Oldham for the region's only Mini event of the year on Saturday 9 August. Organisers confidently expect more than 60 cars to be on display throughout the town centre, with prizes for the top two cars on display and a special prize for "Shed of the Show". Clubs from as far afield as Cumbria, West Yorkshire, Cheshire and Merseyside have indicated they will be turning up on the day to show off their cars. The day-long event will also include an "Italian Job" stand in Market Place, while a wheel change competition and a giant Scalextric track will be located on Tommyfield Market. Local radio station 96.2 The Revolution will broadcast their "Seriously Cool Saturday" show from the event, while street entertainers will also be working throughout the day. The Mighty Mini Car Rally has been organised by Oldham Mini Club, Oldham Council and the Town Centre Partnership who hope it will become an annual event growing bigger year by year. All the cars are expected to be in place by 10.30am, with judging beginning at 12.15pm. Trophies will be presented at 1.15pm at the Revolution outside broadcast van in Albion Street. Chairman of the Town Centre Partnership Mike Flanagan said the event promises to become an exciting fixture in Oldham's diary of events. He added: "We are expecting more than 60 cars to turn up for this inaugural rally and with the experience gained in organising this year's event, 2004 could be even bigger. The town centre should be a spectacular sight for the Mini enthusiasts." Oldham Mini Club organiser Charles Campbell added: "We have had a lot of interest from people in other clubs who will be visiting Oldham on the day either to bring their own cars or to look at all the others. "The town has never had anything like this before and we hope it will become an annual event that will promote the town on the regional stage." Issued by Marketing and Communications Unit who can be contacted on 0161 911 4707/8/9 or email ce.presspr@oldham.gov.uk Spoze it makes sense they could never get anyone to an away show so hold it on the doorstep. Any way why were you listening to the revolution I have no choice its on a tannoy at work bloody awful. Shaun ex oldham mini club. |

Offline | Hi there..... Right then, just been on here having a browse, and noticed this post so i thought i'd add some info for you all.... The show is taking place on Saturday 9th August, in Oldham town centre, and is looking at taking over the whole of the pedestrian precinct area, depending on how many cars turn up on the day.... The show is really quite a last minute thing, so there has been no national advertising or anything, although if it goes ok we are hoping to hold a much bigger event next year.... Basically, it all kicks off at 10.00am, if you want your cars in the show, you need to be there at 9.30am at the latest, the more the merrier.... I will get back to you with the meeting place, as i can't remember it now, but anyway, we are being escorted in by the Police as it is right in the town centre.... Tommifield market have given us some of their car park as a Scaletrix area, we have masses of track, so we will be setting up something pretty good hopefully (if it works, damn stuff!!!!) there will also be wheel change competitions and other bits and bats to keep people interested.... there are also trophies for the best cars on the day, which i think are being presented by the mayor of Oldham..... the local radio station are there all day as well, should be a good day out if anybody fancies joining in.... If anybody is interested, please let me know and keep an eye on this post, and i'll let you know the meeting place. Regards Simon Hollinshead Oldham and District Mini Club Events Coordinator PS if you have any questions you can email me at syholl@yahoo.co.uk |
