Thumbs up (* * On-hold - presumed Non-Event * *) South West Weekender March 2004

Edited by DK on 10 Mar 2004:

Peeps, this run may not take place as midlife appears to have gone AWOL

DK :apple:

Having "put a toe in the water" sounding out interest for a run to the South West it would appear from the responses to be a worthwhile exercise.

I have noted the comments and concerns raised in the original thread and think we have come up with something that will suit as many people as possible.

The details so far.....
<edited 5th Oct>
Dates: Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 March 2004

Start point Exeter in Devon (we may actually start Saturday in or around Taunton and Sunday in Exeter) I will negociate a deal for a hotel in the area and post details asap. I propose Friday night's little get together is reasonably informal in much the same way as C2C Friday and Cotswolds Saturday was

The plan I have that is taking shape and it is likely that we start in Somerset on Saturday morning and cover parts of the North Devon/Somerset Coast with some excursions into Exmoor where, contrary to my original idea, they will be some single track lanes, but they are in good condition ( I drive a lowered car and had no problems very early this morning ) and the delights of places like Porlock Hill. I have started to piece together a route that should include a good selection of the regions roads. Lunch Stop still being arranged but it depends on how big this is likely to get as to where we stop given some venues will not be able to accommodate us.

Saturday night we will stop in or around Exeter. I am presently in negociation with a number of possible accommodation providers but have not haggled a sensible rate yet. I am trying to put a party together for Saturday night.

Sunday We will start from my local dealers showroom (Westerly in Exeter) and I propose we sample the delights of Dartmoor and surounding region and area's of the South Coast. Lunch Stop is presently being discussed and details will follow.

My local dealer has kindly agreed to participate and there are likely to be prizes for furthest travelled, cleanest car, yellowest car lowest fuel consumption, best application of duct tape to mirrors , most unsightly roof/mirror/car colour combination :apple: and a special catagory of best weekend shirt Despite a number of requests there will not be a race the police helicopter competition as there was on C2C

In addition to the regular MINI2'ers we are extending the invitation to the his (my dealers) entire customer base, so this will, we hope, introduce fellow enthusiasts to MINI2. It is also very likely to be a LARGE event. I think 102 cars is the most we have had on a single run to date

All of this will take a considerable organisational effort and details will be updated as we arrange the weekend. I have already recieved offers of help from other local MINI2 er's for which thankyou but, the more help the better, this is likely to be.

So, who's going to come???

Can you please post if you are interested, how many people, how many MINI's which days you will attend and if you need accommodation as it will assist the planning process.

Anand AKA Scratchy (also the Napster) is running a list for me a few posts down. However, I do need to know who needs accommodation.

I will post further updates so keep an eye on the Thread.

Wot Midlife crisis???

I'm still up for the run.

Todays run through North Devon and Exmoor went very well. If you want a copy of the route or any back-up, please let me know.
