Offline | Border Reivers Run, 18th July 2004 This thread is taking on 'The Northumberland/Scottish Borders Run' that Daz's S was organising, but sadly fell through. The following is what I suggested on that thread, so I thought it was about time tro branch out on my own and see if there was any interest in making up for the run that fell through. I have been thinking of a what would be called 'THE BORDER REIVERS RUN' which would be basically starting at J44 of the M6 then heading North into scotland via numerous fantastic 'B' and 'C' roads in Border Reiver Country, which would include stops at Langholm & Hawick. From there we would head into Kielder forest with a stop at the visitor centre at Kielder water, carry on through to Bellingham, back onto the old Roman military road with a stop at Housesteads roman fort before heading back to Carlisle again via B and C roads for a quick drink/bite to eat prior to everyone departing. To be honest, I`m yet to find out the total mileage, and to do a reccy, but if theres enough takers, I dont mind organising. Just let me have an idea of dates By the way, The Border Rievers were the Scottish borderers, who in the 1700s raided the properties of well to do gentry in the areas north of Carlisle. Taking into consideration the Scottish ice cream run on the 25th July, how would the 18th July sound. I need a bit of input from folks as to whether its worth doing. By the way Hat, done a stage recce from Carlisle to Newcastleton via B and C roads for 27 miles last Saturday and I can assure you that there is some fantastic quiet winding roads where you can have some real fun. If there is interest, I will start reccying the rest, Newcastleton to Langholm to Hawick etc etc....... Any replies would be appreciated....... Offline | What about an Mid-August date, I know its hard getting most folk tied down to a date. There appears to be nowt going on around this time and the more the merrier, by which time you should have all recovered from the Cullen weekend. Just a shame we have to miss this due to commitments.
