United-Kingdom The 2005 Round Great Britain Run Sat 30 Apr to Wed 04 May - EVENT CANCELLED

And they said it couldn't be done...........

Well after this years run, next year will be better. Leicester has been designated a "No Go Zone" and Scottish Lochs are high on the agenda. The event will most probable be same time....ish . 4 days of fun, thrills and mayhem. Unlike other runs there will be an exclusive 25 car limit to the Wacky Racers. Travel Lodges are out and Coaching Inns with character are in. Charity is in and the M25 is out. Please register your SERIOUS committment only.

Also this thread will be a forum for open planning and discussion.

OK. Well it's time to get that planning under way while our ideas are fresh in our heads.

Taz great idea about accomodation. Travel Inns are boring. Coaching Inns with character and history are and quite possibly cheaper too

I think this time around, towns should be avoided as much as possible. This includes staying in and travelling through them. Most frustrating to lose the lead cars within a few minutes of departing for the day.

Planning. OK so this year was good but as some of the route maps weren't published until after we'd started the run, if you lost the lead cars, you had no chance of finding them again as you didn't know which route they were taking. I'm not saying that the route should be planned with military precision but a basic idea of routes and roads travelled would be nice which we had for some stages.

I think the dates for this run is fine. b/h w/e didn't provide many problems, although we could of been lucky due to the bad weather at the beginning of the b/h, putting travellers off. I don't know.

BTW May Day bank holiday is 2nd May next year. This means we'd be looking at 29th April to 2nd May if we used the same days as this year.

Might be nice to take in some of Cornwall next year too.

It was acceptable in the 80's

I'd certainly be keen to join in. Put me down as a 95% definite. It'll all depend on the final dates for me.

areas that i think should be explores on the run - All thoughts tho
1. Id like to get a run going thru the Lakes
2. I think a visit to Loch Lomand and Loch Ness might be in order
3. A dip into Cornwall would be nice
4. Going thru Central England has to be done so we need to find a few key areas of interest ie Sherwood Forest etc.
5. The Dales - Hats territory
6. Must do Max's full New Forest Run.- Not neccesarally to Brighton tho
7. Its important that we establish 'Key photo shoot points" on the Run as an objective to get to. ie. Outside Windsor Castle, On Lake Ullswater etc.

all good ideas, just need to make sure the roads & distance are do-able. Key landmarks would be good

i can see an excuse for some 'planning meetings' here
