Just a question, if I came with my wife, would the accomodation be 100Euro max, or 200 Euro max? Ive got a feeling that due to the exchange rate it might be too expensive for us

Is it conceiveable that I could manage the trip (and enjoy it ) with a toddler in tow??

Swamos,

FYI accomodation was much cheaper that €100 per night from memory, apart from big towns we tended to concentrate on small family run hotels and had some absolutely excellent places.

Hope you decide to make it - as for bringing the kid dont see it as being a problem, we all sort of went at our own pace anyway - some in convoy, some not.

Hope you can make it - oh and good news that Skinny is thinking of coming along

Sorry to hear it Neil but I'll see you soon anyway.

Hi Swamos,

100 Euro would be the total rate based on two people sharing a room. This year we stayed at cheaper places (around 60 Euro per night) but I am thinking of using a travel agent to book the hotels in 2005 due to the stress and hassle involved in booking them last year. Its still not decided though.

As for costs, the 2004 trip was around £1500 for Jane and I. That included all hotels, food, fuel etc. I think for single drivers the cost was somewhere around £1000.

I don't really have any experience of toddlers in cars but there will be days where you are driving for the whole day. There will also be lots and lots of hairpins which are great fun for drivers but not so much fun for passengers.

Sorry I can't help anymore than that. It would be amazing to have a special guest all the way from Australia

Cheers
Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Hopefully we will be staying at similar types of hotels though - if it moves into another price bracket (ie €100) I will have to drop out

Dont get me wrong want to come but dont like paying over the odds for crashing on a mattress somewhere - unless its on expenses of course!

Hi Rick, I do agree with you but cheaper hotels means we really need to find them and book them ourselves. This *shouldn't* be a problem but it was very stressful this year trying to do block bookings. Maybe the easiest thing is to find some hotels, give the runners the details and let everyone book themselves?

From my experience, toddlers barf on bends! They also require you to have a pit-stop immediately after you've finally got past the truck or bus that has held you up for the last 25 miles!

That aside, they are a charming addition to any family!

Not here much any more

lets see what people say - ahem, I dont mind doing some of the coordinating but I think we can leave the decision until the route is finalised. Should be fun finding 'our' type of hotel and places anyway

If the numbers grow to silly levels we can get the pros to do it

personally id be happy to book my own hotels. that way it'd keep costs down and like this year if it all goes wrong like one of our personal bookings doesn't go through it was part of the 'fun'. for example for four of the nights i shared a room but it was part of the fun!

i know it might not sound like it and it may be more awkward but those quiet family hotels were far better than the others.
