  • The Mediterranean Coast
  • Some fine Swiss Alpine passes
  • Passo dello Stelvio at 2758m
  • Austria: Otztaler Gletscherstrasse at 2822m
  • Germany: The Black Forest
  • "Pitstop Luxembourg" (tbc)
  • Belgium and the Spa Francorchamps Grand Prix Circuit (you can drive bits of this too)

Sounds great to me!

The route will be between 2000 and 3000 miles (the same as 2004). However we will have 14 days in 2005 instead of 12 which means more rest days.

We get rest?? I'm getting the feeling this is gonna be a bit like Gumball in a way. Just not as fast and less law breaking. But visit lots of nice places and have a great time.

Travel Arrangements
If we have more than 10 runners we will be using a travel agent that specialises in driving tours. It was just far too complicated trying to do it ourselves. As before we will start and finish in Calais.

Fair enough.... not easy choosing places in other countries when you have nothing to go on.

How much will it all cost?
The maximum room rate will be 100E per room per night based on two sharing with b+b. We are looking at 13 or 14 nights, plus the crossing, fuel, food and beer.

Single drivers should probably budget at least £1000 and drivers with partners should probably budget at least £1500. This is a rough estimate based on the 2004 costs and is likely to be inaccurate blah blah blah.

Hopefully going to not be too expensive... but going to be worth it! Not something you do everyday!

Why should I come?
  • Have a look at some of the photos from the 2004 trip.
  • You will drive some of the most beautiful and demanding roads in Europe.
  • You will be in excellent company
  • You will eat fine food and drink fine beer/wine/vodka
  • You will stay in high quality, low cost, family run hotels
  • Think of the kudos..... PMSL!!! ! Do I get extra good Kudos for great lines and slides?

See above

I think the rest days were very welcome this year and if anything the consensus was to have more in 2005. We will visit some truly beautiful places and you'll be able to drive as fast or as slow as you feel fit.

I can assure you that some of the roads really will make you think twice about going too fast. There was a rumour that even Rick slowed down sometimes (was that before or after his brakes were smoking)

what an outrageous slur on my character , well occasionally I did

Rest days were good as it made people decide what they wanted to do with the days (ahem lots of fast driving for me on one of them)

Just one suggestion Stuart might be an idea to only have one night in Calais (last?) - it is a dump after all!

Although the return leg isn't really clear at the moment, the plan is to spend no nights in Calais. The official start will be the Grand Prix circuit at Reims which is only about 175 miles from Calais.

I don't want to spoil announcing the full route but there are some amazing passes and gorges through the French Alps.......we'll be going to "Les Gorges de Verdon" which is also known as the French Grand Canyon

Yeah - haven't got around to updating the first post yet. Will do it when the route is finished.

Probably go down through French Alps, ferry from Nice to Corsica and then across to Italy. Up through Italy, Switzerland maybe Austria and home. Everything will probably change at least 500 times between now and next September.
