South Downs Run - 23rd/24th July'05 (post event pics and chit chat)

Hello people,

It's back. The best run of last year is now in the process of being put together.

Hotel

The Hotel I have selected is the Travel Inn in Chicester, its just of the A27 so is in the perfect postion.
The Link to the Hotel - Premier Travel Inn

Camping
This year I am going for a Campsite as well as a Hotel for those a bit more adventurous, I believe that this is a much better idea and a good way to enjoy the sunshine that we will no dought get
The Campsite is called Southern Leisure Lakeside Holiday Village and is in Chichester just of the A27 (map at the bottom of this post).
The price for tents are as follows:
£12 per night per tent plus £2.50 per person (children under 4 are free). The size of the tent doesn't matter so I'd suggest we get a huge tent then we only pay £12 once (anyone got a marque )
Phone the number below to book for the sat night and book as early as you can as it could get busy that weekend.
Link: Lakeside Campsite
Tel. 01243 787715

The Friday Night -

We will be going out for a few bevy's on friday as a few people are going to be staying over that night as well, click HERE for more info and chat

The Saturday -
The Run-
The meet point will be at the Goodwood Motor Circuit at 10.30 for a 11.00 start, The cars will leave in two groups, the slower group will go first followed 10 mins later by the more spirited drivers . The run will take us up though Goodwood and around the best roads the South Downs have to offer. The run will have 3 stops, two 15 minute ones and a hours lunch stop at the Oving Village Hall (pictures below of the same stop last year). The Run will end back at The Goodwood Motor Circuit at around 4.00.

The Skittles Evening -

After the pub we will be heading back to the campsite/hotel to get ready for the evening entertainment and we will start meeting at The Gribble Inn at around 6.00.
The Gribble Inn is in Oving and is a traditional country pub with real ales (they even brew them on site ), good food and even low wooden beams to hit your head on .
They also have a skittles building next to their brewery which is where we will be spending most of the night, the skittles building holds up-to 50 people has one lane, tables and chairs and it's own bar .
We will be organizing two teams nearer the date which is likely to be SCNM vs The Rest There will be food as well, already in the included in the price. The food will be a Buffet which will be eaten in the skittles hall as not to halt the fun.

Food - There will be a buffet laid on now as they have lost thier main chef, but the cost has gone down by £1 to £6.95 per person

Price = £6.95

The price includes -- Hire of the hall, our own bar lady and the food. The money can be paid for on the night however I do have to put down a big deposit, I also have to have your, when you have decided can you please pm me, the earlier the better.
Link to the pub -The Gribble Inn

The Sunday -

Have a lye in (one thing that neaver normally happen's on run weekends )and get rid of your hang over or just chill out for the morning. Then at 12.00 we shall be leaving for a run up to a pub/resturant somewhere in the South Downs for a good ol' sunday roast. Then people can leave at there leisure for a nice afternoon drive home and for a change get home quite relaxed (well I know I will )
This Run and Lunch is mainly for the people staying over on the Saturday night however depnding on the numbers there may be some room for a few locals as I will try to keep this smallish .

Well there is no link on the page to last years (but I am sure that is just an oversight) but assuming the partner does not go and do something silly like book a holiday then I'll be there for all or part of it!

I'll keep my eye on the date - a possible wedding in New Zealand may scupper things, but it sounds good so far

Surely this is the perfect reason NOT to go on holiday so you cant go, OK

Put me and Peanut down for this as last year was a cracking weekend. The only doubt is that peanut is scheduled to work this particular weekend, but she thinks she has a good chance of swapping her shift and she is also vey keen to go on this one.

i appreciate this is early in the planning stage of the run.

a few questions / suggestions

Saturday overnight accomodation, it might be a good idea to locate camping for this, we could then have a BBQ in the evening and find a pub / hotel /b&b within walking distance (for those that like the comforts of indoors overnight. This would be ideal to allow social activities and trips to pub. I for one would prefer to kip under the stars with a few tinnies

Given the run is advertised in GoMINI we definitely need to be on the ball with this run, pace notes needed, recces day before etc. As we have to assume that people may turn up from the readership of GoMINI who are not MINI2 regulars and unfamiliar with how we do runs.

Lee dont get me wrong im not attempting "to teach u suck the proverbial egg - of organising MINI runs". Im just offering my assistance etc and im sure other people will.

If we get the ball rolling on this we can offer it up as a regional event and get other regional clubs involved (especially if we are making a weekend of it). Its now in its second year so i agree with expanding the event from being just a run to offering more activities.

A trip the RR factory would be brilliant, not sure that the trackday is viable for goodwood, its been proven that to keep costs down trackdays need large numbers of attendees (goodwood only allows 8-10 cars on the track at a time) unfortunately... Paintballing would be another good choice.

I think that given the compexity of this event it might help if we create a SCNM organisation commitee (expects MAX's comments on this ) to oversee this.

May the ball start rolling and maintain its momentum

If it is a large run, then I would offer to help by making name badges as per usual, and you will have the use of my megaphone

As for expanding this to a weekend jobbie, we really need to get this going and soon, otherwise we may not be able to find suitable hotel/campsite to accommodate us all!

Just had a word with Max re: camping, eh, no, not for him and therefore not for me either! Sorry!

We may, just may, drive back to his on Sat and not stay the night in town, however, my preference is to stay in hotel and have a few drinks, no surprise there I think

Let me know if you need me for anything, and I shall see what I can do - nothing else planned for July 05, so you are in luck!

Max will come online when he goes into the offiice - I am hogging his dial-up line again

Lee, updated title for you by adding the year and the day to avoid confusion

Thought about changing it to "Weekend of 23-24 Jul 2005" and thought no, not unless it is firmly a weekend jobbie

Hope that is ok

I am thinking that this will be a two day event so I will be looking in two camping and hotels to cover everyones prefrences, I do have alot of things in mind but until I find out more then I won't be posting about as I don't want to get peoples hopes up

Thanks for the advise peeps however organising this is something that i loved doing last year and I don't think I'm likely to need any help for this one (I have Mark remember), but you will be the first people I come to for help (and Neil of course)

And If anyone bring's up Hobzy's run I'll beat them as that WASN'T even organised it was just a re-run
