The Arctic Circle - Banter Thread

This is the banter thread to the run to the midnight sun! Harpo has kindly agreed to organise a run to the Arctic Circle up through Norway for midsummer 2007 so feel free to chat away to your hearts content in here

Please keep all the banter to this thread though as it will make it far easier for Paul to move through the registration thread and respond to what he needs to. Below is the link to the registration thread.

I have plans to do a run up that way. It will be called 'The Road to Hell'

Hell is an isolated chasm in the Norwegian midlands, and would be a good stop on the way to the arctic circle.

Of course, whether the plan comes to fruition is another matter altogether. It rather depends on expressions of interest.

You are right though Matt, it will be tough and progress would be relatively slow.

that was one of my secret plans for a future ...or bust tour

Ferry from Newcastle to Norway and then up through the fjords to the artic circle. I guess studded tyres would have to be mandatory

There was an article in a recent Car or Top Gear magazine where they took an Ariel Atom up to the Artic Circle. No roof or heating. Complete madness.

Maybe not next year, but count us in

I have always wanted to do a Norwegian Fjord holiday and see the northern lights etc..., probably in 2007/8 as next year is out as Max and I are going to Canada to visit my folks, to be followed by a RV holiday in the Rockies

Sounds like a fantastic idea - once in a lifetime trip. Would love to be involved prefereably 2007-8. Word of warning though, Norway is not a cheap place. I went a couple of years ago and the price of food is not reasonable ie £1 for a kitkat - need I say more. Even the Fjordline Ferry from Newcastle to Bergen charged Norweigan prices and a burger cost more than £10. Well worth it though for the hairpin bends and scenery in Norway.

I will be going to the Arctic Circle at the end of this year, not in a MINI though and we'll be looking for Santa in Lapland but I can't wait

went to scandinavia a couple of years ago and denmark was very expensive bit like norway. however once in sweden it became sensible like UK pricing. Agreed not cheap but if u find all inclusive family B&B its not too bad. At the arctic circle all the vehicles are camper vans which may indicate the way to go. Anyone reckon you can tow a caravan on a MINI

For the midnight sun, it has to be the third week in June, and at that time it would probably be warm enough to camp.

Fancy planning it for that week in 2007 Harpo? I'd be happy to help out with any of the organisation and I'm sure miniturismo.co.uk would love to sponsor the event

Start saving peeps. £600-£650 for the ferry alone, depending on the type of accommodation.
