Offline | I see you looking, so here's an idea I’m open to suggestions, but based in Asheville, NC. Here are a few that come to mind: Waterfalls (long trip) Take I-40 west out of Asheville for approximately 20 miles to Canton. From Canton, follow Route 215 past mountain farms and along the beginning section of the French Broad River. Take Highway 64 west to follow a portion of the National Scenic Waterfall Byway, which gets its name from the 200 waterfalls that surround the route. The area also supplies headwaters for the French Broad River, which flows northwest into Tennessee; the Chatooga River, which travels south into Georgia; and the Cullasaja River. As you drive, you will pass the old resort towns of Cashiers and Highlands. The drive will leads you past Toxaway Falls, Dry Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Cullasaja Falls. Continue on Highway 64 to Franklin. From there who knows; Go north on U.S. 23/441. At the juncture, take U.S. 23/74 east, then merge onto I-40 east and continue to Asheville. (Round-trip driving time: 4 hours), or Go south on 441 which will lead to Gainesville, GA and beyond! Grandfather Mountain (moderate trip) Visit Grandfather Mountain to view native animal habitats, enjoy hiking and picnicking and test your courage on the mile high swinging bridge which also provides a great vantage point for viewing autumn’s rich colors. From Asheville take 19/23 north. At the split take 19E towards Burnsville and Spruce Pine, then on to 194 (a Very, Very Twisty road) to 221 north (more twists). Take 221 to Linville Falls area. Pass the Blue Ridge Parkway and at the intersection of 181 and 105 look for a billboard directing you to Grandfather Mountain. (One way driving time: 1 hour 45 minutes.) From there, who knows; on to Boone, NC or back down the mountain on hwy 181 into Morganton, where people can join I-40 Or any other routes that people want to run Disclaimer: some info ripped from other websites and modified ![]() |

Offline | Smokey, I am still recovering from Euro. I went back to Greenville Monday AM and just got home. Sharon and Marco with the red Super Cooper were still there Tuesday AM. If you end up doing a trip more towards Charlotte I may join in. Don't think I will go to Panther game. The Century Open House is Thursday November 7TH from 5:30 to 7:30. I might stay in Greenville that night. Could you do something on Friday, might be less traffic. |

Offline | Yeah, seeing the grand babies sounds good. Always a good idea keeping wifes happy. I am in North Charlotte about 6 miles from the Speedway, so close to I85. I can also get over to I77 thru Huntersville. How about going to Gaffney and going up 11 to 276 is that any good? I had someone give that route. Maybe we can pick up some more MINIs depending on which way we go. |
