Offline | Dragon run, April 03 A Dragon run is being setup for April 2003. Exact date isn't scheduled. Chris Tucker has setup an email list with some Roadfly names. More info will be posted here before the trip, but the real discussions will take place on the email list. Subscribe to the list here And while many of you have heard of the dragon, if you haven't click here. Only 318 turns in 11 miles. And then there's the Cherohala Highway and all the other twisty roads around the border of North Carolina and Tennessee. Indi Blue MCS, Born Sep-13 Sport, Premium, Roof Rack |

Offline | Oops, That will teach me to work from memory. Sorry Jason. I got the last name right! Didn't they come up with a way to use multiple windows on computers. I'll try that next time since my brain is obviously failing me. -Brad Indi Blue MCS, Born Sep-13 Sport, Premium, Roof Rack |

Offline | Paddy, will be attending the 'Dragon Run'. Really looking forward to this. Getting really psyched..... If there is enough interest, I might be able to talk my pit crew into attending this great run. For those out there that have seen the "Mischief 3000 DVD", you will know what I am talking about. If they can't make it, I am pretty sure my other friend can..... paddy ![]() "We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail..." -- President George W. Bush - Sept. 20, 2001 |

Offline | Grinder, check out the link in the first post about the Dragon. The jist that I got from it was, as long as you are not being "STUPID". There was a good story by a Miata owner, he lived in 2nd & 3rd gear, mostly 2nd. Are you ready for the great snow of Dec '02??? Do you have all of milk, bread, and 'tp' stocked up????? It is coming.... paddy ![]() "We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail..." -- President George W. Bush - Sept. 20, 2001 |

Offline | Sounds fun, BUT... I have read some very scary stories of people in cars and on motorcycles dying on that road in the past two years. The problem is often that tractor trailer rigs must cut across both lanes to round many bends and these are often blind corners. Recipe for disaster. Lots of med-evacs out of that area I think... Offline | I'll be there! I've run it before in my 99 Miata and it's a blast. You do have to watch out for trucks and cops. The motorcycle cops seem to like to park and look for us drivers so they can fill up that ticket 'quota' quick. |

Offline | Hi everybody. Just wanted to mention that we presently have 28 folks signed up for the e-mail list... and it's only December! We could end up having a very big turnout for this event!Once again, if you wish to subscribe to the e-mail list, you can do that here: http://www.mushr00m.com/lists/dragonmini/ We are currently working on nailing down some dates, and should have them determined soon. Also, I just wanted to comment on the "danger factor" of the Dragon. Yes... it's a dangerous road - probably the most dangerous road, I've been on. All the twists, turns, and elevation changes make it feel like you are on a race track... without all of the safety features that racetracks usually have (safety barriers, run-off, no opposing traffic, etc). With that said, it is a very fun strech of road, and can be ejoyed in relative safety, as long as you aren't trying to be a superhero. Be alert, obey the signs, stay within your personal limits. ALSO (and this is a big one), there are countless roads in this area that are amazing quality. Some folks find that one trip up and down the Dragon is enough for them... that's fine... there will be more than enough prime asphalt to keep you occupied! Also, if you are keen to run the Dragon, I found that weekdays are best (less traffic and LEOs), and early morning (pre-breakfast) runs can be particularly quiet and low-traffic - just watch out for wet spots. Can't wait! __Jason 03 BRG MCS (Jan build!) Last edited by jtucker : Dec 9th, 2002 at 03:37 PM. |

Offline | BTW, here's a photo of me on the Dragon, at the Calderwood Dam overlook, taken on my trip this past summer: ![]() Ummm... yes, the bike is damaged. No, it didn't happen on the Dragon! I actually crashed a couple days earlier near Asheville, NC. Still had an amazing trip, though and can't wait to get back down there!__Jason 03 BRG MCS (Jan build!) |
