2009 Cooper S - Engine Light I have a 2009 Mini Cooper S. On Friday, October 21st the yellow engine light came on. I called to make appointment with the dealership. They gave me an appointment but said there could be one of serveral reasons why the light came on. Has anyone had this problem with their 2009? I want to have some sort of knowledge about it before I walk in the dealership. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

There are so many reasons for the light to come on, more than several reasons, to many to list, best to wait untill they retrieve the fault code to get a better idea.

Thanks for the quick response Stead34! I got the call from my dealership. The light was coming on because the engine has carbon buildup. They cleaned up the carbon. The direct injection was not firing correctly. My gutt feels like that may not be the problem. I use premium gas as suggested. I make all my scheduled services. The car has very low mileage. Does this make sense to you?

Its proven that carbon build up can cause problems with whatever fuel you use, its caused by crankcase ventilation fumes building on the valves, I have read that there is a mod you can carry out to eliminate this and in turn improves oil consumption, search the forum and you'll find the information on this, If I had a cooper S id look into doing it as the oil consumption does seem to be extremely high on some, up to 1l per 1000 miles is what BMW say is acceptable but thats madness, do they think its a 2 stroke engine. If that is the reason for your managment light being on, then only time will tell.. Check your oil weekly is the best advise I can give if this was your problem. Should have abit more poke in the engine now as the carbon does reduce engine efficiency...
