Hi everyone i currently drive a vauxhall corsa and wish to get a mini cooper s as my next car, just to make sure are all mini cooper s's supercharged? :/

I want to purchase one with a high spec possibly a JCW, i also need to gain general knowledge about them so any help will be apprieciated. Also im unsure what the following R53 & R56 and so on? Im a big fan of the dark grey colour coopers and hopefully will get one soon.

R56 is the turbo charged newer model and the r53 s is the supercharged model. I have an r56 MCS but I have to say that the supercharger "whine" is a lovely sound that you get in the r53 and part of me wants one for just that. I love the r56 for its looks though but there's loads on here who'd say i was mad.

For some reason I can't upload off my phone but if you google image search "mini cooper s r56" and "mini cooper s r53" you definitely see the difference.
R53 has a lot smoother lines and has a lot more fans in the looks department. I personally favour the r56 as looks more aggressive especially with the jcw aero body kit an jcw "y" spoke wheels!

Have a look in the new members forum re issues and probs to look out for. R56 started from 2006 I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong..I'm still relatively new to this)

On the early r56's I think one of the main things was cold start rattle. Lots of posts in new members section re common issues.

If you're looking for a supercharged model ...

The 1st Gen MCS hardtop (R53) was produced through November 2006 and the 1st Gen MCS Convertible (R52) was produced through July 2008.

If you open the bonnet and the headlights point skyward it's a 1st Gen MINI
