England hi all, new member with a bit of a problem...

hi all, i have registered here primarily to find out about a problem a friend of mine currently has with her 2004 COOPER S R56

she called me yesterday saying the exhaust was louder then normal, can i please have a look at it before she goes to a garage so she doesnt get ripped off, i found the problem to be the pre-cat on the manifold, just after the flexi joint, a complete weld failure had happened and it was just hanging there, i had a good look at it and imo it cant be welded back due to heatshield in way and possisition of it over subframe, this means new full 1 piece section consisting of, manifold, flexi, pre-cat and full cat inc 2 x lambda sensor point's....

bmw price £1051.97 supply only, extra £112.98 to fit

spoke to mini head office to question the weld failure and there were never any recallls on the exhaust system on the cooper S only water pump's, was then told that the price was reasonable for an exchange job but if i got an engineers report on it breaking they may do something about it....

i managed to get a pattern part TYPE APPROVED with 3 yr warranty for £275.99 inc vat without the pre-cat and going to fit it tomorrow

once i have the old one off and new fitted i am going to get an independant check on the old system and see what BMW have to say about the weld failing..

so has anyone else heard of anything like this happening anywhere else in the world at all ?????

any help or info greatly appreciated,

thanks in advance Rich
