Hey everyone, thought i would introduce myself.... Im Dave from Peterborough, England. I stumbled upon this site after searching google for parts for my new Cooper S. I used to be a original Mini owner 15 years ago i had an '84 Austin Mini which was followed by two custom built ones that made it into the local newspaper here.
Ive never been able to afford a new version until recently and after one drive in it was amazed that BMW had created something mirroring the fun go kart style of the original so i rescued it from death and am currently trying to work out a few little issues.
As the story goes, the car was new in 2002 and has had a troubled life....
Previously written off in 2010, rebuilt and reregistered in 2011....
It threw a driveshaft in the middle of Cambridge and at that moment i stumbled upon the car down a back alley with a couple of strange looking guys trying to 'light' its interior. This...... was a REAL SHAME. I bought it for next to nothing there and then, HPI checked it, whoever these guys were had never registered it and it was still in previous owners name.
I got it home and have been cleaning it up and working on it ever since.
Now pretty much perfect, all it needs is two small problems sorting out and i am over the moon with it.
All fun in the end....... all for the love of the machine......
Welcome! Interesting story........I too came from the world of classic Mini's and now love driving the new version just as much!
(Although it was Rover engineers who actually created the Mk1 New MINI while BMW financed its development and future production).
Media preview of the new MINI on the eve of the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1997 ...
I remember watching that preview, cant believe it was 1997, times gone so fast,
I came from the world Imps having own one for 38 years, a great Mini rival, totally different but just as much fun race tuned, and if its set up right can out perform them like for like.
