hi, my names nik and i've just bought the wife a nice '03 cooper s with 72k miles on the clock.

2 questions spring to mind at the moment. 1st, is it common for the glove box to fall open over pot holes or speed bumps? and 2nd, whats the ASC button for? is it some kind of traction control?

No its not, it means the latch wants adjusting, somethings broken or just worn, more likely it needs adjusting to make the latch fully engage.
ASC, it should tell you all you need to know in the drivers handbook.
