2002 gearbox

Hi, older minis have always been in our family. I've never really spent alot on a car. I had to have a bini.....I have had mine a few months really enjoying her after being warned off the 2002...proud as punch, happy as Larry, blah blah until yesterday. A new noise...
Gearbox...but she's only 11 yrs old. feeling grim I approached bmw here . Omg...whoa and wow you need a truck load of money to own one of these cars....
I have read on forums it came out with a 5speed midlands gearbox, complaints started generally round the 50tho km mark. Interestly named a common fault.hold on they new and didn't recall? Ahhh but seemingly come the models from 2004 plus were upgraded to 6speed getlag boxes. Seriously gutted at the cost.
Upset at the cost to the point of tears. ..I have no idea what I'll do with her. .
Not everyone has big bux and whatever I do is a loss!

No need to go to BMW or expensive main dealer, any good mechanic can just fit a reconditioned Midland box or the later Getrag for you using secondhand parts where possible.

Thanks Mab 01
I only went to bmw for a second option, and I've read folk have had issues with reconditioned ones...seemingly sometime s the noise is still there etc, and the mechanic I use said he won't no how bad things are until he begins taking it to bits. I totally accept that, I'd be a good week without my car.bmw one day! I have the typical power steering whine as well, and want to check and to see if she has any oil leaks. I love her and have to make a decision on ...should she stay or go.... A quiet quandry to sort through.
