Hello,

I'm a Mini Cooper owner since 2003. Despite the problems I had with the car (last one: power assisted steering failed when i was relocating from italy to uk last year) I'm considering buying a new mini bayswatch.

I'm not sure this is the right section to ask a couple of questions I've in my mind....

I was concerned about the retain of the price of special edition car. The seller told me that actually the used special editions cars are sold for higher price compared to the equivalent non SE. Is it true or he was just trying to sell that car? If it's not true how much will I lose?

I had a test drive with a cooper and a cooper d. I reset both computers and at the end of the test the fuel consumption was 29 mpg and 38 mpg. It doesn't seem to be much better than my 2003 mini...

Is it true that for short journeys the Diesel engine gets damaged? I commute 25 minutes (9 miles) everyday (each way).

Thanks in advance to any reply

I think the value of "Special Edition" cars depends on how many were produced and how "special" they were.

Models like the GP or WC50 will retain higher value because only a limited number were produced. Limited numbers don't always guarantee higher value. Case in point was the US MCS MC40. Even though only 1,000 were produced, some had to discounted by dealers to sell. I guess they just weren't so "special".

Most MINI Special Editions only offer an exclusive cosmetic option which may not be "special" to the masses
