Hi,
I leased my mini 1 last April from BMW Glasgow....on Thursday morning when I went to get into my car I noticed the rear windscreen was shattered...through my insurance I had the glass repaired...this morning again when I was about to set off for work the rear screen was shattered again...after reporting to police as I thought this was youths and again got my insurance to repair...however when auto glass attended the 2nd time the chap pointed out that he thinks this an electrical problem as the connection and wiring were darkened in colour...he repaired and left the back wiper and demister disconnected as he feared this may happen again...he also advised that I check mini forums to see if this is a known problem....I intend to contact the dealership however before I do so I have read that this has happened with mini convertibles.....
Can anyone give ma some advice/ammunition before I speak to BMW...please
Our convertible has a glass heated screen but the set up is totally different than a hatch rear screen. The convertible has no rear wash wipe for a start. The heated screen is smaller in the convertible also. I guess an electrical fault causing heat build up could crack the glass and shatter the entire rear screen. Have you smelt by weird burning smells in the car? Electrical burning had a distinctive smell.
The rear screen and front screen, if fitted, heating elements ought to time out of a few minutes of use anyway so you cant leave it on permanently and thus caused battery charging problems, maybe yours has been on to long as this feature isnt operating properly then if used and the sun comes out for long periods gets to overheat?
