Hi I'm lynda I have an 03 mini one whom I lovehowever I've joined as I need advice ..........my power steering has started to go really heavy occasionally then sometimes won't work,I've googled it and can see its a huge problem I've rang BMW mini and it's booked in for a diagnostic check £99 ,If it's the dreaded pump I was hoping they might repair it as it's a problem they are aware of ,however I've just phoned Mini HQ and they accept no responsibilty so I will have to pay all costs which will be £700 ish has anyone else had this happen recently ,I really need mini drivers help here please

BMW will normally pay if your MINI is under 10 years old and reasonable mileage.
Your pump has failed for sure but BMW will insist on doing a diagnostic test before you get any 'goodwill' offer.

However if no luck with them then an independent garage can change the pump far cheaper than the high hourly rates charged by BMW main dealers.
PS Pump is available reconditioned for around £200 from BBA-Reman on ebay and a local garage will charge around 2 hours labour to fit, there is no reason to pay £700 for such a simple replacement job

BBA-Reman in Kent:

Lots of examples of BMW 'Goodwill' claims on Mini ps pumps here:
