DIY Air Bag Mini2 air bag light reset resolved

Hi all joined this forum to post to learn about the Airbag system in the mini2, my wife has a Mini Clubman that likes to turn the airbag light on...frequently.. I could not find a way to turn this light off /re set it save gong to BMW /Mini stealers, specialist or someone with fairly new snap on kit...I have finally found a machine that you can use at home that for (what I think )reasonable money will (in our case ) turn off the air bag. A certain online auction site has them for 84.95 not cheap but once you have had to go to the indy twice for resetting of warning lights , diagnostic etc etc its paid for itself, and you can diagnose a fair bit with the Carsoft i910.

If you choose to do this yourself this is at your own risk, , even with the latest carsoft software (Jan 2014 update) when you link the i910 to your mini and select 'mini' as the vehicle it will not work !even though the people that produce this machine think it should! it will not communicate with you mini air bag system.

This is the part you choose to do at your own risk , I take no responsibility for you doing this, and I expect loads of people will say 'oooh you shouldn't do that' however it worked for me... instead of choosing MINI in the menu choose BMW 1 series....yep you did read that right BMW1 series !

From here you can work your way through the menus to get to the 1 series multi restraint system(1 series equiv to Mini airbag system).. once selected it will show the fault code and what it is, mine was the usual seat harness issue (so will be extending the wires with the repair kit from BMW) once the code has been found the machine allows you to rest/clear the codes

Hope this helps people out ! this is to date the only cheapish piece of kit that I know works and the only thread that tells you which machine to use (I am sure someone will correct me !)

good luck

cheers Mark
