R57 spare wheel carrier

Hi, I'm a new mini R57 owner and have searched through your forums for a definitive answer to my question without any luck. Can i fit the space saver wheel to my version of the mini? I'm impressed with the details from members of how to fit to older versions and R56 but nobody seems to have had a go on a convertible. I have asked the dealer but all I got was the computer says no, but I can't see that my version has a different underneath to a non convertible.

I've got the list of parts shown on the forum for the R56 and have already bought the wheel from the dealer (Ł34) and tyre from Kwik fit for Ł54 so I'm ready to go but would appreciate a definite yes or no to whether its possible.

Thanks very much.

I used to have a Cooper R57 and there didn't seem to be any reason why the spacesaver wheel mounting under the boot floor couldn't be used. But I never tried it and haven't read of anyone else doing it. Correction: I've seen someone on an American forum who has done it.

If you have a Cooper S, then you definitely can't mount a spare under the floor since the exhaust is in the way. But if you have a Cooper (or D), it should work. The only way to find out is to look carefully at the good pictorial guide to fitting the spare wheel carrier that is floating around the forums somewhere. It goes into some detail, so you should be able to lie under your car and double check that everything can be fitted.

Thanks, its a cooper d, I've looked underneath and everything looks exactly the same, I've seen just a couple of USA threads that state its been done but nothing for the UK. I think I'll just go in to the dealership with the parts list from a member on here and give it a go!

If there are no major differences or obstructions visible compared to the photos shown in the thread below it should fit ok, especially if R57 in USA has been done.......if you are successful please let us know.....and add any new info to the thread below to help other R57 owners in future:
