Hello, I have a 2010 cooper d and the heater stopped working this morning (no air at all). I rang the Mini garage and they said to check the coolant. I did and it is 3/4 of an inch above the minimum level and they told me to put coolant in it as soon as possible. I got back into the car 2 hours later and it started working again. I got coolant for it and I'm not sure what way to put it in. it has to be mixed with water, will ordinary tap water do the job, what way is this done, do I put the coolant into the car and then the same amount of water or do I mix it then put it in. As the car is near 4 years old in June should I get the garage to bleed the coolant that is in it out and fill with brand new coolant. That will likely cost a fortune to so. I just don't know what to do? Can someone advise me please?

If the coolant isn't premixed it should be mixed with distilled water as directed.

I don't know about 2nd Gen cars, but for 1st Gen coolant mix (for BMW branded coolant) is 50-50 and coolant flush is recommended every 4 years.

Thank you for your reply. Does it take long to flush out all the old coolant? They might charge a small fortune to do this. I bought the BMW branded coolant but its not premixed, where would I get distilled water?

Find an independent MINI Specialist to do a coolant flush.

As for purchasing some ...

Coolant flush around 70 + vat on average......more in BMW Dealer due to high hourly labour rate.
