Oil Leak - 2006 Bmw Mini Cooper 1.6 Petrol

Hi folks

I recently bought the above, 1 owner 99K, full BMW history. It appears to have an oil leak as the bottom of the engine is wet with a film of oil but the oil level seems ok and it isn't dripping into the floor even overnight. It's not underpowered goes like a train and there is no blue smoke or any smoke on revving it.

Are there any common faults with seals or areas I can look at to solve the problem before I have time off to look please? Thanks .

Hi ya

A little oil goes along way, but if you are shore your engine oil is ok. I would say you need to check you power steering fluid level and also your gear box oil level.

Failing that get the engine cleaned down and keep an eye open

Normal places for leaks are sump gasket. Crank shaft seal behind the flywheel, gearbox oil seal.
My power steering hose was leaking at the tank and running down to the power steering pump then on to the sub frame then the floor.

As marque said a little oil goes a long way it clings on everything & slowly builds up till it covers everything. Another common place for leaks is the rocker cover gasket. My mini had a quite a lot of oil round the back of the engine & subframe it looked like I had a bad leak I knew the rocker gasket was leaking & I thought the sump gasket was leaking too, I changed the rocker gasket (not too expensive job) then totally cleaned all the oil off with white spirits in a squirty bottle to coat everything & a good hose off. That was 8 months ago & the whole underneath is still totally oil free
