I have just purchased a mini cooper 05 a few months ago with around 55k on the clock. After having the car only 2 weeks the clutch went on the car and I have since had that replaced but I am now encountering a new issue with losing coolant from the engine coolant tank.
I took the car into a garage last Friday and they replaced the thermostat telling me that was the cause however the problem persists.
Does anyone have any ideas what is happening and what needs replacing? There is no white residue appearing and the car is not overheating so I'm hopeful it's not the head gasket.
At 55'000 I lost my water pump! Simple fix and good time to do radiator fluid change (should do every 2~3 years) Make sure the garage doing it (if not Mini) knows where the all the air bleed screws are, mine didn't. If not you will experience like me lack of heat and if to much air is in the system you could be talking Head Gasket trouble
When the clutch was changed the garage will have drained the coolant system and as said are likely not to have bleed the air out properly later causing coolant tank level to drop and overheating type problems.....often the heater will also blow cold or barely warm.
