Hi, I am new to the site,. I have a 2010 Clubman with paint bubbles on the roof. I took it to the Dealer who referred me to their preferred paint and body shop. They said it was contaminated primer done at the factory. The Dealer had a change of Service management and they didn't allow it. I am going to seek legal advice on this now. Does anyone have any history with Mini on this?

Thanks,
Hickster

The fault is caused by moisture in the airline when spraying the car and the water eventually bleeds through to under the top coat and lifts the paint causing bubbles, called microblistering.
Im surprised it would happen at the factory and the cars are oven baked there afterwards.
Has the roof been sprayed again since it left the factory do you know of sometimes you can tell with overspray present around the awkward to mask areas?
Have you had it from new?
Also its not unknown for a car to be damaged on the transporter when being delivered and the dealer then has to sort it out before they can sell the car, Ive seen brand new cars that have been damaged by hitting low tree branches on the top deck of the transporter.
So your car might not? have the original factory paint if this happened.
You need to investigate further I think.

I have the results back from the dealers preferred body shops-both state that the "e" coat is contaminated. They explained that there was something on the bare metal that the "e"coat would not properly bond to and that it needs to be taken to bare metal and primed and painted again-the entire roof. Mini of USA is trying to decline the claim based on a new Service managers unprofessional opinion. The had the original body shop opinion and I don't believe the new Manager turned it in with his " phone" pictures. He told me that something dropped on the roof. There were no,none, nada, zip marks of chipping. I will try Mini of USA once again after they placated me on the phone and then said they would not accept responsibility based on the Managers evaluation.
Next step is legal recourse, or arbitration. Too bad, word of mouth and these forums are so bad for BMW/MINI. They have good products, they need to improve their integrity.
