New Member. Backup light switch issues.

Hi, i have a 2005 mini cooper. the backup light switch that is located on the transmission was not working. i bought a new switch and it sometimes works and sometimes doesnt. can anyone tell me what the problem might be??

Sounds like the switch might not be quite engaging sometimes and then others, some switches rely on being shimmed to work correctly and the adjustment can be very fine, some use washers etc as spacers to adjust them in or out or it maybe the linkage that contacts the switch is worn a little and the extra play is causing the switch not to quite engage??
Does the switch work ok every time if operated by hand? if so its a setting problem.
