Hi it's a 2002 Mini Cooper 1.6
It also failed on driveshaft gaiter, airbag light stays on,
And headlamp reflector .
Advisory oil light stays on at idle.

Hi ya

right hope this helps
driveshaft gator easy fix new boot job done any car factors will have these just get a new drive shaft nut when you do it and make shore its locked.

airbag light you need to run a diagnostic check on it to see where the problem is, but normally on the earlier and some latter cars it to do with the connectors under the drivers or passengers seat so check them out first
remember disconnect your batter leave it for 10 min before playing with airbags

head lamp reflector sounds like a job for the breakers mini matt or ebay is you best bet just get the right type for your car

now your oil light is your oil level correct. i know it sounds stupid but trust me people do not check there oil. if its ok you need to get sorted or you could trash your engine my money is on someone not using a original BMW mini oil filter. low oil press at idle is a know problem with cheep copies or a missing spring on the early type or housing.

early cars
RealOEM.com * BMW R50 One 1.6i Lubrication system-Oil filter

later cars
RealOEM.com * BMW R50 One 1.6i Lubrication system-Oil filter

so buy your self a original filter just swap it out no need to drain the oil unless you want to, i would recommend changing oil 6000 miles anyway

as for there original question about the ball joint its item 12 on this link

RealOEM.com * BMW R50 One 1.6i FRONT AXLE SUPPORT/WISHBONE

hope this helps you out :-)

Thats a great reply thanks very much a lot of info,

Reading up on this oil filter light seems there is a common issue with either the wrong type of filter or the spring is missing,

So filter i can sort - where can i source a spring if mine is broken or missing?

Ref: The ball joint looking at it under the car looks like just two bolts a ball joint nut.
are they straight forward to change ?

Thanks very much

Regards
Scott.

Hi ya no problem

bmw for the spring cheep as chips as they say if you need one

the inner ball joint is pretty straight forward job, but can be a pain to get out might take some adjustment with a big hammer just make shore you have a good ball joint splitter.

if you have not all ready got one get a manual for your car very handy for torques and figures. i have a Bentleys one very useful but haynes do one as well but i have no idea what its like.

hope this helps mind you pinkies :-)
