Convertible with power drain!

Hi i'm fairly new to this. i've had my mini convertible 04 since last May it was running fine until i moved house and am travelling less to work, a few weeks ago my battery was dead, so i replaced it with a new one. It was fine for weeks, until the other day it was dead again, i have unplugged everything one by one and the battery still sparks when you attach the second cable, i do have the sat nav and six disc changer which is what i thought it was but it isn't, yesterday i got to work approx 8miles from my house when i went to go home 9 hours later it was dead again!! does anyone know what it could be as its a massive pain especially when i'm going out with my little boy, a part of me wants to get rid, but the other part loves it so much. I'd appreciate any advice.. Thanks.

Yeah i've had a look, there seems to be a post which is a similar situation to mine. Thinking it is the alternator its the only thing left to check! thanks though.

Hi ya

When you connect the battery poss first neg last, you will get a small spark because there are a lot of electronics demanding power even with alot disconnected.

Alternator is a quick check start the car check the battery voltage you should be running around 12.5 to 13 volts then put your lights on you could then read 13.5 to 14 volts ish
That will tell you if it's charging.
You can check the current draw once the car is turned off buy disconnecting the alternator and also your power steering pump.
It is possible that you may have a bad new battery

Do you have an aftermarket alarm fitted these have been known to cause problems

Hope this helps
