Electrical Noise prior to Starting, 2006 R50 Cooper

Hi folks, I am new to this site, so please be gentle.
I recently purchased a 2006 R50 facelift Cooper Auto and have noticed a very unusual noise prior to starting. It sounds electrical as if something is setting itself under the bonnet and lasts about 5 seconds after you turn the key, but prior to turning the engine on. It also makes the noise when you turn the lights on (again without starting the engine). if the car is warm and you turn it off and then back on again it doesn't do it.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received

The noise you are hearing when turning the ignition on is probably the fuel pump priming it is like a whirring sound & is normal. The noise you hear when you turn the headlights on is probably the headlights self leveling if it has HID headlights which is also normal

The basic halogen headlights also have electric motors which make a noise on switching on.

The power steering pump motor also makes noises running up or down when starting or switching off.

It may also be the throttle body adjustment at start up, If it sounds more like a click noise from under the bonnet.
