Got a phone call off son this morning saying his mate had a Red BMW Mini for sale - was I interested.
Not expecting it or even looking for one
, I went to his house where it was parked.
On the drive was a red MINI with white roof and white bonnet stripes on a '52 plate.
Alloys were fitted as well. Looked smart.
Opened door to be met with red door panels with red/grey seats. OK
Got given key and started it up. Fired instantly (but it had just arrived).
Took it for a spin and liked the way it drove although steering felt stiff (but had just got out of wife's Audi A2 - light steering).
No bumps, clonks, rattles, squeaks, just felt solid but smoother over bumps than A2.
Got back to son's and parked it in drive.
Walked round back and found Cooper badge on bootlid. Then noticed tail pipe - 3"
Not so cool was the air filter mod
somebody had done - naff looking round aftermarket Motabitz job in place of original filter box - will be changing that
ABS light on and tyre pressure light came on while testing it.
Was interested with a little trepidation as I know gearboxes can give agro on these.
Also concerned about mpg and insurance.
Insurance turned out to be £5 more a month than what I was oringinally paying for a Smart Fortwo.
Mpg figures quoted on Autotrader at 32 round town and 54 on a run.
Wife took it for a spin. Loved it.
So now £1300 later, it is now parked outside my house. Two neighbours green with envy.
Starting to love the colour and way it looks.
One other thing - other son loves and drives a 1990 Rover Racing Green Mini and has a downer on MINI's.
He's coming round tomorrow to have a look at it - suppose he thinks he's an expert
