DIY 3rd gear judder

Hoping someone can help. I have a 2003 Mini cooper 1.6p which drives really well except for one niggle, for some reason there is a judder or stutter when accelerating through third in a normal driving manner. It only occurs for a very short time and for a very short window at certain revs/speed. Up to that its fine and if you accelerate beyond that it disappears again so it only lasts for a few seconds. It is like being in the wrong gear. It only does it in 3rd gear not in any other or when pulling off. I have changed plugs and now debating whether to change coil pack and leads but I can find nothing on line where people describe a similar problem. There has been no EMU problems and air filter etc changed and car service, but not by BMW. Anyone out there that has had the same problem and cured it please help!!
