Bought a 2004 Cooper S

So i just bought a 2004 R53 mini cooper s and was very excited, i have been looking for one for about 3 years now. I bought it in New York, i live in Connecticut. I purchased it with 105k miles for $4,700 which i thought was a great deal and it was. Very fun to drive and quite quick. I just brought it to the shop to check out a check engine code which i need to clear to pass an emissions test. It turns out that the catalytic converter was removed and instead just a metal pipe has been welded in its place. Not only that but the two accompanying O2 sensors have been removed and apparently have been tampered with to try and make sure no lights would appear on the dash. This fix is apparently going to run me about $1,600. I am really happy to be part of the mini family but just wish i didn't have the unfortunate luck to have to deal with this. I still love it though and will get it fixed ASAP! I also love the color as i haven't ever really seen any models with this color scheme. I can't wait to see other peoples coopers and connect with you all!
Thanks

Since the oem downpipe and cat are pretty expensive, you might want to consider a Milltek header.
About $1250, vs about $850 to $1150 for the OEM part, depending on source.
Could instead use another header that comes with a cat, but some others may be more prone to failure or
CEL's down the line. The O2 sensors are about $200 each.
