Offline | moving away from standard run flats After purchasing my Mini 2 months ago...I am not entirely happy with the run flats they do...doesnt feel as nice as the Yokohama AVS sport on my old Civic ![]() Just wondering did any of u guys swapped from run flats to aftermarket tires afterwards and if so...wot happens to the on board computer? cos it registers with run flats..i.e if there is a puncture the car will recognise it...with aftermarket tires..will the car just ignore this functionality? Any normal garage can do the tire swap from run flats to normal tires or do u need a specialised garage? I have 16" wheels on 195 tires...do anyone do the jump to 205 or is it not possible? Also is a spare tire needed once u go away fromt he run flats? Cheers... ![]() |

| Trained Monkey | Loads of people have done this, and there's lots of information on it in this forum. Try the Tyre Statistics as a start point: Last edited by MINIAC : Oct 9th, 2007 at 04:55 PM. |

Offline | Hi pkman, I can't answer the question about run-flats versus standard tyres - I'm thinking of doing it too, so i will watch for advice from others on this thread. I can answer a couple of your other questions though.... - Flat-tyre indictor works using the same sensor as the ABS system. This works by noticing that one wheel is rotating at a different speed to the others. Obviously this system also takes into account whether you are steering or braking when taking info from the 4 sensors - otherwise the flat-tyre indicator would light-up when every time you spin the tyres or invoke the ABS. - I believe most people who switch to non-runflats carry one of those puncture repair cans. I have also seen some pretty cool spare-tyre mounts some people have fitted here on MINI2, though I suppose it depends how much you use your boot, as once you put a spare in there you aint got one anymore ( a boot that is, not a spare). Hope this helps, Gregg QuickBrick |
