How to dim the ASC indicator light?

My Cooper S tried to kill me yesterday. When I turned right onto a main road on damp pavement from a stop sign, I used about half the gas-pedal travel to try to stay well out of the way of an oncoming semi.

To my great surprise, the bloody car lifted off the pedal as if it was stalling - the traction control had decided that since a wheel was slipping, it would charitably correct for my ignorance and back off on the gas. Even after I hit the gas for more power, it wouldn't go any faster.

This happened a second time, even though this is an `05 car with LSD, so I've turned off the ASC feature permanently. I'll depend on the LSD, and take the additional tire wear from having no "traction control".

This causes a new issue - the yellow ASC indicator light is so bright that it actually causes glare when driving at night and it is much brighter than the other instrument lights, so I'd like to make it dimmer.

Has anyone opened up the tach to access the indicator bulbs, where I could put a hood over the ASC bulb or use some paint to dim it out? Any tips on removing the tach, getting inside, or what I'd find if I got in there?

i reckon the best part of the MTH tuner remap is the traction control. They modify it brilliantly. Only once or twice has interfered when i didn't want it to, and both were dumped clutch starts, and even still, it doesn't bog down for half the time....

I'd recommend it to anyone.
