Brake Warning Light

This came on for a short time twice (15 secs yesterday and abt 1 min this mornng) . It the red light that comes on when the handbrake is not released.

The weird thing it came on when driving on almost the spot of the road I use every morning!!!
It went off by itself. I checked my handbranke and it was fully released.

Three weeks ago it has the first brake fluid change. Checked fluid level and it's between the max and min level

Any opinion on this please.

There is a little sensor at the back of the handbrake under the cover that is triggered when the hand brake is up. If the connector comes loose then it can play up at the different times when it doesnt need to.

Check the operation of the sensor when stationary by taking then hand brake on and off a few times. if it responds without a problem then all is probably fine. if the problem persists then remove the handbrake cover and check the connection of the sensor.

Alternatively if you want a free car wash take it to the dealer (if it is under warranty) and get them to do all the work for you.

Thanks, Andrey.

It happened again (red warning light came on) this morning on the SAME spot outside a hospital . Three morning in row seems to be too much of a coincidence. I was not driving fast as there are traffic lights along this bit. As far I know, this never happened even with continuous driving elsewhere over an hour

Could it be outside interference ???

Hi,

This suggests to me that it is something to do with the location and maybe even the interference from the hospital. See if you can park up in that spot and apply the handbrake to see the effects.

Thanks for the suggestion. WIll try that out, traffic permitting and report back.

Would you know the warning light work on electronic, rather mechanical, to detect the hand brake release or brake fuild level ?

Cheers

Getting Weird !!!!!!!!!!!

The same thing happened this morning.

The red light came on again for the fourth consecutive time when driving on the same spot of the road, outside a large hospital. !!!!

THis time it came on while waiting at the red traffic light and it went off 50 yards down the road, after passing the hospital. While stationery, I put the hand brake on and off a couple of times and the light stayed on. Never happened before even I have take the same road for years.

Why on this spot of the road ???? What is affecting it ????

This is where I'll put my hands up and will say 'I dont know whats going on!!!' I'm as confused as you are.

I'd say phone the hospital and see what crazy machine they are using every morning when you drive past

Thanks for your input, Andrey. Hope someone can come up with explanation.

If what I assume is correct i.e. outside interference causing the warning light to come on, this is a bit scary - what else can such interference set off in the car ???

I think the only way to confirm this weird occurence is to get another MCS to drive along the same road. BTW the hospital is Northwick Park in Harrow, North London if anyone wish to test this out. The warning light comes on around the traffic lights when travelling towards Wembley.

In any case, I will send car to the dealer for them to have a look.
