DIY brake pad help

the barkes on mini (02 cooper) have stared too fell less responsove lately whats the best life span on them as its done 20400 miles some very enthuisaticly has anyone got any pics of how much pad should be left as i looked yetsreday and its got 4-5mm of the pad left on front and rear or could it be the discs that need doing

That was Russel in the convertible CS, i think he decided to reduce them to nothing on the day.

With regard to the pad wear, you should change them with 3-4mm left as they start to deteriorate quicker due to less heat dessapation. Your disks should be fine as you only start to damadge them once all the pad material has gone.

If you are changing the pads yourself then run your finger across the face of the disk (front and back) to see if you can feel any grooves. If they dont have any then they are fine, if they have a notisable grove then i would change them as they will wear the new pads unevenly.

cheers guys yeah will measue tomorow when its light other wise it be coming up to lohen for new pads as ive already got a quote from nick for fitting of them (a lot less than my dealer )
