New Brakes

Hey,

I got my Mini serviced at 36,000 miles, about 3 or 4 months ago, and the dealer said that I needed new disk brakes and pads for both front and rear, very soon! Im looking to get some new brakes, maybe do the front (disks and pads) and the rear later. Just wondering, are there any upgrade brakes to the stock ones, that don't cost a fortune? Im looking for some, somewhere around the £200 mark. Any reccomendations?

Cheers
Anton

I can't recommend anything in particular as I don't have that type of knowledge/experience but have a ganders at Lohen as they do quite a few options www.lohen.co.uk

Lies need defending all the time. The truth defends itself.

Greenstuffs create very little brake dust, but a lot of people don't like them (not much better than standard, sometimes worse, sometimes noisey).

For pads, get them all round, and go for either Mintex M1144 or Ferrodo DS2500 for fast road use or gentle track use.

Other minor upgrades include Goodridge braided hoses, mainly to improve pedal feel and bite, which also work better under higher temperatures than the stock hoses; and when you change your brake fluid go for AP Racing Formula 5.1.

Lohen do all of this, and I'm getting the same mods quite soon.

As far as discs go, EBC or Brembo make similarly priced discs, which give the pads more to "grip" onto and therefore increase braking performance. I'm not doing the discs, but all of the other stuff, and expect to see a good difference in pedal feel, initial bite, and a bit of an increase (but not massive) in actual braking performance

Thanks for the info. Ive been looking on the sites and the prices seem ok. Im thinking of going for the Brembo pads and disks from Lohen.co.uk . They should look decent too!

Remember that even after changing the discs you won't notice a massive improvement - the MINI's brakes are one of it's weak points. But you'll be making the best of what you've got, and will probably notice a good improvement.

If you want seriously better braking, go for a BBK (big brake kit), but as you've probably seen from the Lohen site, expect to pay £1k+.

Well im not all that fussed on huge braking, plus 1k on brakes seems an awful lot! Im sure that i will notice some improvement, as my current Mini brakes are on there last threads, and braking does not feel as strong as it used to. Once again, thanks for all your info, its been a great help.

After shopping around I found this kit which seems a reasonable price, plus you get the EBC greenpads. What do you think?
