Offline | squeaky brakes my mini is 2 years old. only had it a 3 months. about 6 weeks ago noticed the brakes squeaked ever so slighlty as she comes to a stop. it isn't as i put the brakes on but as the car stops. so there is a bit of a delay. took it in for a check and was told that they were fine... hmm!! any ideas what it might be?? these aren't new as far as i'm aware.a few years ago i had a focus and when the brakes were replaced they squeaked dreadfully after but worked really well. any advice would be much appreciated. |

Offline | You are experiencing disc/pad "glazing" which comes about when you "baby" your brakes. A few "brisk" stops while you are out and about will generate enough heat to burn off the glazing. This is provided the people who told you your brakes were fine actually looked and it is not a case of very thin brake pads. If it countinues and grows louder and grindier, you will then know you have just trashed your discs..... Hope this helps |

Offline | thanks a lot. i'll try the harder braking. i have been a bit gentle on them...and if there's a loud grinding noise afterwards...then i'll know it was the pads!!! cheers! |

Offline | My brakes began squealing about two months ago, and I took it in to the shop fearing that I had been hard on the brakes (autocrossed a few times) and worn them down prematurely. They told me the same thing that pocketrocket reports; glazing - comes with the stop & go driving we experience in heavy traffic. A couple of hard stops and my brakes no longer squeal. |
