Offline | Problem with brake pedal I have just had both front and rear brake pads replaced and as expected they the brakes are a bit spongy. This is only until the "bed" in properly. But since they have been changed I have noticed that when I press down on the brake pedal there is a noise similar to air escaping. Sounds like when you put your foot down on an foot pump without the nozel being attatched to anything. Any ideas??? |

Offline | Usually you can only hear this if the engine is switched off, it may be the slight, short hiss of air from the brake servo. You break ( ) the vacuum in the servo when you push on the brake pedal. If you can hear it over the noise of the engine and it continues for as long as you are pressing on the brake pedal, then maybe there's a hole in the servo diaphragm??? But if this were the case you would lose braking effort and the brake pedal would probably go rock hard. Stick your head under the bonnet and get a mate to press the brake pedal, with the engine running. If you just get a short, faint hiss, I guess this is normal. ![]() |

| OllyH | Hi - just a quick question, is the noise heard when you press down on the brake, or as you take your foot off it, releasing pressure? If it is the latter, this is what was happening on my car. MINI looked at it and diagnosed a loose servo valve (I think) and it was repaired undert warranty. |
